Day 45

"Padawan Kenner, do you know why we have asked you here?" Mace asked, wearing his serious expression reserved for Council affairs.

"Not really, Master Windu. I was only told by Master Jinn that I must visit the Council at once." Oaklyn said, twirling her Padawan braid in her fingers out of nervous habit. Qui-Gon had come into her quarters with a message that morning. She needed to see the Council. The Master didn't tell her why, but Oaklyn had a tingling feeling up her back. She had a good idea why.

"News, we have." Yoda hummed, his stoic expression never once falling from his face. Not that Oaklyn had seen, anyway. "Found you a new Master, we have."

Oaklyn's heart dropped through the floor.

She didn't feel ready for a new Master. She didn't want a new Master. Nicola was her Master and would always be her Master. No other being would ever change that. No matter how powerful they were. Of course, Oaklyn couldn't really disagree with the Council. She had to go along with whatever they said. The Council were much more experienced than her. That must mean something...right?

"That's..." she chose her words carefully. "Wonderful." She painted on a fake smile. The word wonderful tasted bitter on her tongue, like she betraying her fallen Master be receiving a new one.

"She believes to feel a connection with you Padawan Kenner. We would like you to meet her." Depa Billaba said in her matter of fact type voice.

"Of course Masters. I'd be...honoured." Her heart wrenched even further. Another female Master felt like a further betrayal. She swallowed thickly as she heard the doors of the  Council room open from behind her. The soft click of boots filled the silent room. Oaklyn took a breath before turning around. She was met with deep red hair and dark coloured robes. The silvery lightsaber on the older woman's hip glinted in the light streaming from the windows.

"Hello Padawan Kenner." The woman spoke with authority that made Oaklyn shiver. Her eyes slightly widened as she felt the Force tremor around her. She could hear a faint scream, that resembled hers. She couldn't for the life of her figure out why the Force was acting so weird around this woman. "I am Master Elesia Fay. It's a pleasure to meet you." She stuck out a worn-out hand. Oaklyn took it and shook firmly.

"It's a pleasure to meet you too Master Fay."
Oaklyn nodded speaking quietly but not forgetting her manners.

"By way of the Jedi High Council, we deem you, Elesia Fay, the Master of Oaklyn Kenner, Padawan to the late Nicola Sallow. By taking Oaklyn Kenner as your Padawan you are aware that you are to train and guide her on her path to Knighthood. Do you accept Oaklyn Kenner as your Padawan?" Mace asked, raising his eyebrows in anticipation.

Oaklyn was silently hoping she'd say no.

"I would be honoured to have Padawan Kenner as my Padawan." Elesia bowed deeply.

"Then settled, it is." Yoda tapped his grimer stick. "Padawan Kenner, pack your things and move into Master Fay's quarters you will. Wish you the best on your journey, the Council and I do."

"Thank you Masters." Oaklyn bowed in respect and followed Elesia out.

"Ready to begin a new adventure...Padawan?" Elesia whispered, holding a weird smirk on her face. Oaklyn just nodded in reply.

She could feel the Force whispering a warning in her ears. A warning she decided was nothing.

A warning she would soon regret not listening to...

End.
