The housemaid was tidying a bedroom upstairs, when Thomas walked in. "Hello, I'm Mr. Barrow, the under butler." he said grinning.
"I'm Iris Green." she said shyly.
"I want you to tell me what you know about the late Mrs. Bates. I also want to know if there's any chance that you're related to the dead valet, Mr. Green."
"I met the late Mrs. Bates one time, and she was quite unpleasant," the girl feared Thomas, so she felt the need to give him some information.
"And the valet?" Thomas asked impatiently.
"I not related to him, but I knew him."
"You've got to tell me more. I don't think that it's a coincidence that you knew Mr. Bates's late wife and the man that Mrs. Bates was suspected for murdering."
"She was suspected for murdering him?" the girl asked fighting tears.
"Yes, she was even imprisoned for a while." he told her impatiently. The girl walked off, so that he wouldn't see the tears.

She walked downstairs and found Anna sitting in the servants's hall. Anna looked at the crying girl with concern.
"Are you alright?" Anna asked concerned.
"Yes, Mr. Barrow just told me that you had been falsely imprisoned..."
"I see. And why would Mr. Barrow tell you that?"
"Because my last name is Green. He suspected that I was related to him. I'm not related to him. I..." she paused and looked at Anna seriously, "Can you keep a secret?" she asked with red eyes. Anna nodded. Iris continued,"Mr. Green was my step brother." the girl said with more tears flowing.
"Iris, do you think that I killed him? Are you angry with me?"
"I know you didn't kill him! That's why i'm upset. You didn't deserve to be imprisoned. You're a kind person, and I'm glad that Mr. Bates found someone like you." she said smiling through her tears. Anna smiled back and told her to no tell anything to Mr. Barrow.
