We walked as fast as we dared with Ryan's condition. I felt exposed and terrified. I had no weapon to protect us as we ducked in and out of doorways and peeked around corners for guards. But, what happened next was a miracle, no doubt. David's guards around campus walked in pairs as the smallest groups, 5 being the largest. Yet, as I peeked around another trechorous corner I found only one, rather small boy with his back turned to me. I thanked God for providing for us.
Now, being medically trained comes with advantages. Such as knowing pressure points used to knock a person out. I had Ryan wait as I tip-toed up behind the boy, and jabbed him precisely in the neck. I was kind enough to lower him to the ground, rather than falling in a heap. I motioned Ryan over and had him keep watch.
I then stripped the boy of his pistol and a very handy looking knife sheathed to his lower leg. Then, we carefully placed him in a closet. Don't want anybody stumbling across him knocked out in the hallway. After that, I felt some confidence work its way through me. I can do this! We can really get out of here, we can make it!
And that's when the reality of it all hit us, as it crashed around us like a tidal wave. We heard the rumble of at least 12 boys running in our direction. I shoved us into an empty classroom and heard an all too familiar voice. "Find them! You incompetent, apes! She can't get away!" He pauses, then adds, his voice darkening with the words that chill my blood, "And shoot her little cripple of a boyfriend on sight."
