I stared into space, nonexistent love wounded me into void ness. "Tkae" she called out my name. I swear my heart skipped a beat or two but I didn't mind, I could probably die from her smile and I really wouldn't mind.
I looked back and quickly fixed my blazer and ran my hand through my hair a few times to get it into the best shape I could. Curse my nappy hair.
I went out the room and ran back in for the last check in the mirror. 'I can't believe this is me' I thought to myself and picked up my pace as I left the room toward her position.
She was a petite melanin skinned girl with a smile that could send me into a frenzy every time her lips stretched.
"Where were you?" She asked her voice raspier than before but I didn't mind.I could tell she was a bit nervous. This was probably because I had left her alone in such an unruly environment. If I could say so myself because well, I learnt there. I gave her a warm smile to shake off the nerves and it worked as intended for the both of us. She reciprocated with a grinning smile which made me break me into an unexpected laugh followed by a light snort that I instantly regretted as soon as the sound left my mouth.
"That's so cute" she said now laughing and I felt a cringe coming in.
"That was weird I'm sorry for that" I looked around to make sure no one else had suffered the same fate as she had, yet somehow she was enjoying this.
"Don't be really" she smiled and I felt warm and relaxed in an instant. "So how are you Tariku?" I inquired and she smiled back and exhaled with a bit of frustration.
"I'm kinda okay I guess, but that's a very complicated question. So I'll divert it to you, how are you Tkae?" I quickly denied her attempt at dodging such a simple question in the preliminary stages of our conversation.
She then explained how she and her brother had come for a football match. Well mostly her brother who was playing football on our school grounds on the opposite end of the from where we where. Turns out she had been dragged here by him and was just walking around the school when she saw the art charity event which was going on at our music center. Were we had then met a few hours later.
She was apparently very hungry now but too lazy to go to get food from her brother. I didn't blame her because with the unforgiving scorching heat from the sun, the day was moving slow and I was feeling tired already and it was still just a little after 12 mid day.
I felt a drop of sweat trickle down my forehead and I wiped it off with the back of my left hand. I don't know if it was just the heat or the nerves finding their way back to me at this point but nonetheless it was definitely searing and I was getting very thirsty.
I offered to buy us both some drinks at the school shop. We slowly made our way out of the marimba practice room where I left my phone on the charger in the back of the room and her backpack hanging snuggly on the chair she was sitting on earlier when we were still getting to know each other. We had so much to talk about but on the little we had discussed we decided we would continue after our trip to the shop and back.We decided to blindly trust the few people In the room by leaving our stuff inside. Their faces looked fairly innocent. We walked down the green grass towards the exhibition. She showed me a few of her works that she had just started on earlier when she arrived before I "shamelessly" dragged her away from her work as she had put it, but I'm sure she was just as distracted as I was. I mean, I was supposed to be in band practice for an end of term concert that was taking place the following day in the evening. And I'm sure all my band mates saw that I was a bit occupied, and so they just let me be. Although I don't know how long they'd let me, even if they wanted to.
I had three to four songs pending and to be practiced today before I had to go back home and get my camping gear since I was staying for over the night preparations. I had barely caught the words to the Michael Jackson number Billie Jean. And considering the energy and vintage style that had to be implemented I was definitely far from performing the song on stage.
I admired her talent as she jovially explained to me the whole process leading to how she had made all the unique pieces of art. Some drawings, some more architectural than paintings but it was all amazing.
Halfway into the explanation and I wasn't listening anymore. Not because she was saying something boring or anything like that but because I was now realizing how completely mesmerizing she looked. Not just facially but when I looked into her eyes I swear I could see right into her soul and man was it an exhilarating feeling.
I quickly jolted myself back to reality as soon as she was done talking and from then my case of word vomit was unleashed. I flooded her with compliments which I think were too overwhelming but she was thankful either way, which made me feel less awkward about telling how her art was soulful, beautiful and apparently had "beautiful eyes." Whatever the fuck that was supposed to mean.
But she just laughed and I think she quickly noticed that I was referring to her eyes. Which I also realized, sadly a few seconds after shamelessly ogling and staring into them. What a wierdo!I thought to myself. And once again I cursed my mouth for being an outpour if unnecessary words and just straight up creep talk at this point.
