Jason found the receptionist's desk. (Before midnight, of course.) He waited for her to look up at him.
"Welcome to the Uther hospital, how may I help you?" He wrung his hands.
"Hi, yeah, uh, I'm technically a patient here, but I'm fine. I have to talk to someone. Uh, do you have a Bronwyn Ackles checked in here?"
She clicked a few times on her computer. Could she type any slower?
"Mhm."
"Who's her doctor?" She clicked a few more times. But before she told him the name, she looked at him.
"And who are you?" Oh no. He'd be arrested for medical record fraud or something like that. Uh oh. Play it cool, Jason, play it cool.
"Uh, Jacob- Jason Daniel Pendragon. Bronwyn's boyfriend, I guess. And coworker." He grinned. "I have to talk to her doctor about, uh, the... bills. Yes. The bills."
"Ah, okay. Sure thing. She was treated by Doctor Pettinati. I can take you to her, if you like."
"Yes please." He followed the receptionist through the hallways until they met the doctor. Introductions were made. The receptionist left and Jason spoke.
"Hey, so... Bronwyn, huh? She's doing good, isn't she?"
"She's recovering nicely. Why?"
"Well, you see... it's a long story and I don't think you'd believe me if I told you. Bottom line is that she needs to get checked out as soon as possible." The doctor crossed her arms.
"She will be released tomorrow if her nose doesn't swell up much."
"Yeah, that's great, that's great. But she kinda has to get out... tonight. Like, right now."
"Unless there's an even bigger emergency than a broken nose, I'm required to keep her overnight. She was in an automobile wreck, you know."
"Ah, yes I do. I was in that wreck. And this is a bigger emergency."
"What is it?"
"I... can't tell you." She raised an eyebrow.
"Why not?"
"Because you wouldn't believe me!"
"Well. I'm sure whatever it is, my patient can wait until tomorrow to get to it. Good night." With that, the doctor turned and walked away. Jason sighed in defeat.
