I wake with a start, the phone ringing loudly. I glance over at my clock and see it's just past one in the morning.
Corey opens his eyes with a yawn, handing me the phone.
"Hello?" I answer.
"Hey, Kel, It's Alex. Sorry to be calling you so early, but I sort of have to ask for a huge favor."
"What is it, Alex?" I ask with a sigh. Corey leans up on his elbow to look at me, his eyebrows raised.
"Well... I sort of need you to come bail me out of jail."
"You want me to come bail you out of jail? At one o'clock in the morning? How the hell did you get in there in the first place?" As I speak, I notice Corey smirk a little and lay back down.
"It wasn't really my fault, honest! But I can't really explain properly right now, I've only got one phone call. Do you think you could come down? I'll explain everything, I swear."
I take a deep breath and turn my head away from Corey before I reply.
"Fine. I'll be there in twenty minutes."
"Thanks, Kel," he says, letting out a breath gustily. "You're a lifesaver!"
I hang up and put the phone on my bedside table before turning to face Corey.
"You're going to go bail him out?" Corey asks with disbelief in his voice.
"I have to. He used his one phone call to call me. I can't just leave him to rot in there," I say softly.
He mumbles something under his breath that sounds a lot like that's what the prick deserves.
I lean over and kiss him lightly on the lips.
"I know this sucks. But I'll make it up to you," I say with a small smile.
He smiles back, but it doesn't reach his eyes.
"Do you want me to wait here for you? Or just call you tomorrow?"
"You can wait if you want, but I might be a while. You'd be surprised at how long it takes to bail someone out of jail," I say with a grin.
"You sound like you've had a lot of experience bailing people out of jail."
"Unfortunately, I have," I say with a sigh.
"How's this? I'll go home, so my mom doesn't have a panic attack, and then I'll come back in an hour or so."
"Sounds good."
I kiss him again softly before grabbing my jacket and leaving.
An hour later, I'm sitting in my car with Alex, driving him home.
"Now, care to explain exactly how you managed to land yourself in jail?"
"Well it's like this. Me and the boys were walking down the street minding our own business when some girls walk by. Frank being Frank, he latches on to one of them, chatting her up. He was doing pretty good too. Until some fucking Pythons come around the corner. One of 'em starts yelling about how Frank's hitting on his girl, and how he's going to kick out asses. The girl starts going on about how she's never seen the Python before in her life, and Frank starts being all territorial. Anyway, the delusional Python starts shoving Frank, and Frank's shoving back, then all of a sudden it's a full on fight. The girls got out of there, and when the cops came so did most of the guys. I didn't hear the cops, but the guy I was hitting must have, and he went all limp and stopped fighting and started acting all innocent and shit. And I got hauled in."
