An awful screaming is echoing through the clearing; it sounds like an animal has been caught in a trap or something. The screaming continues until I feel Corey's hands pulling my head onto his lap. He smoothes my hair back from my face, telling me it will be alright. Then I realize that what that awful sound is. It's me. Even though I now know that I'm making that horrific noise, I can't seem to stop.

It takes the paramedics ten minutes to get me to calm down, and even after that I can't stop hyperventilating. The only thing stopping me from screaming again is Corey. Even though he'd looked so banged up, the paramedics had cleared him, saying they were only cuts and bruises, and that they'd heal by themselves. From the moment he was cleared, he held me in his arms, simply stroking my hair. That one small thing is all that's keeping me together. And I somehow know that that's how we'll be from now on. Together. I feel as though I need to scream or hit something, or just run away. I feel as though I'm going insane. But I guess having your ex-boyfriend's corpse fall on top of you can do that to a girl.
