Nightmares

I laid on my bed starring at the ceiling. My mouth guard and goggles were on the bedside table and I was just in a black turtle neck. I heard a knock on the door. I sat up looking towards the door, I guessed it was Jane.

"C-come in."

To my surprise it was the guy in the blue mask. Jane didn't tell me really anything about him exspect to be careful around him. He stepped in closing the door behind him.

"Have you cleaned the gash since you got it? It was bleeding rather heavily earlier."

He looked at me, he had a kit with him. His voice was kinda deep. I could see that his hands were not human color. They were a blue- grey ish color. He had long black fingernails too.

"Hello?"

"O-oh s-sorry, n-no I h-havent."

I guess I spaced out. I was a little nervous. Guess he realized I was kinda scared.

"You can trust me, I'm a medic here."

"O-oh."

He walked over to me and started ro check out the gash. He also looked at some burn marks on my hands, face, and neck. He bandaged up the gash, and put some liquid on the burn marks. After he was done he got up and started to walk away.

"T-thank you Jack."

"Don't mention it."

He started to open the door when I blurted out a question I've had for awhile.

"Why d-do you l-leave your m-mask on all the t-time?"

"Im not exactly human kid."

"W-well I figured that. A-and im n-not a k-kid!"

"How old are you then?"

"18!"

He was facing me now.

"Shit you're a lot older then I thought."

"You s-still didn't answer the q-question."

He sighed.

"Everyones scared of me, and you would be too if you saw my face. So drop it."

"N-no, I want to see."

"Damn you're annoying."

"And p-persistent too. It can't be that bad."

"You want to see that bad?"

"Yes."

My tics almost completely gone. I starred at him with hope. Maybe I'd make another friend.

"Fine. Thought maybe I could sheild you from me, but that isn't going to work."

I wondered what he ment. I watched him slide his mask up. He had no eyes, just black, black, voids. He had black stuff coming from his voids. His teeth were pointed and sharp, like a sharks. His tounge was long and black, almost like a tentacle. I starred at him in awe. He wasn't scary, he wasn't gross, he was...handsome. Jack slid his mask back down and huffed walking out of the room and closing my door. God, I must've looked like an idiot! I was blushing hard.

I decided to go out to the living room. Its 2:34pm now. I saw Ben, Jane, Sally, Jeff, Nina, and someone with stiches all over their face, I guessed this was Liu. I went over and leaned against the couch over Ben. Jane looked up at me.

"Oh Toby, who patched up your cheek?"

"Hm? Oh E-Ej."

"You went to infirmary and let that silent thing touch you?" Nina said

"Well o-one he came to my room to check on m-me. And w-what do you mean silent?"

"He came into your room?!" Jeff sounded confused

"By silent we mean he doesn't talk to anyone." Ben piped up

"Hes never talked to me and I've been here for 3 years." Liu stated

"D-do you guys try to talk to h-him? He said everyones s-scared of him but hes not scary. I mean hes got sharp teeth but-"

"Wait wait wait, he talked to you?" Jeff said, still confused, " and you saw his FACE?"

"Y-yeah? Hes super nice I don't see why-" Jeff cut me off

"How the hell does the newbie get to meet, see, and talk to mr. Silent? All I've ever gotten is a fucking growl!"

I heard a chuckled from behind me. I turned to see Ej. He was walking towards the kitchen.

"Speaking if the devil-"

"Jeff leave them alone!"

Jack walked into the kitchen.

"O-oh and-"

I turned to Jane.

"How o-old do you think I-I am?"

"15?"

"IM 18 D-DAMMIT! Do I r-really look that young?"

"Yes."

They all laughed in unison. I started to blush. God I did look like a child.

"Hey so he's older than you jeff-"
Sally started, "actually hes older then a lot of us."

"Oh yeah. Im the oldest in the room, I'm 19." Jane said.

"Im 9." Sally cheerfully said.

"Im 14." Ben said.

"Me and Jeff are 15." Nina said looking towards Jeff, he gaged.

"Im 16." Liu stated.

------------ Time Skip To 12:46am -----------

I couldn't breath, And I could feel the pain. It burned. It hurt. They were all laughing at me. The flames. Lyra. My dad. My mom. Stop. Stop. STOP.

I woke up in a cold sweat. I was breathing really hard. I was shaking and crying. I grabbed my shirt. I tried to calm down but couldn't. I've felt pain in dreams before but that... that was to much. I needed to calm down. I went downstairs and went to the kitchen. I grabbed a plastic cup and tried to fill it with water. I was shaking pretty bad. A deep voice startled me.

"Toby? Are you good?"

"J-j-jac-k?" I turned around

"Hey, whats wrong?"

He grabbed my shoulders. I wrapped my hands around his torso and cried into his chest.

"Whats wrong."

He looked at me sternly.

"I-i- h-had-d a d-dre-dream-m t-that-"

I bit my lip.

"Toby calm down, what happened?"

"I ha-had a dream-m a-and I co-coul-ld feel. A-all of i-it. T-the p-pain."

I let go of him, falling back and onto the floor. I sat with with my hands over my eyes. I was sobbing so hard I couldn't breath.

"Toby."

I looked up, still shaking. Jack had taken his mask off and was looking starring into my eyes.

"Look at me, and breath. Its ok."

I took a breath, and calmed down. Looking at him calmed me. His voice, and the way he looked at me. Oh god he was handsome. It was 1 day into being here and I already had a crush. I pulled me into his arms.

"You're ok. It was a dream."

"I-im so-sorry."

"Hey, we all have nightmares sometimes. Its ok, I promise."

"I-im going to bed, but t-thank you again..." I paused for a second, "why are y-you so nice to me? Every-o-one else says you don't t-talk to th-them."

"I don't talk to them because they're scared of me. I could hit one of them and they'd apologize to me. I've tried, they just get scared, I sense it. You...you aren't scared of me."

I hugged Jack. I got up and started to head towards my room. Jack was right I wasn't scared of him. I liked him.
