Dabi watched as Satomi stares at the screen of his phone that was playing a children's showㅡ specifically about colorful ponies and unicorns. The child watches the show with wide, unwavering amber eyes as she lays on her stomach.
Watching the show with Satomi brought a feeling of happiness to Dabi. He never got to watch shows or rest when he was a childㅡ having to constantly push himself to be the best his father wanted him to be and with his obsession for acceptance then, it added more fuel to the fire. Seeing Satomi simply watching a kid's show made him happy inside.
"Rar-ty!" Satomi points at the purple maned pony and looked towards Dabi who hums in response and ruffles her two-toned hair. "Rarity's my favorite character too." He says with a small, barely visible smile as he watches the child turn her head and goes back to watching the show. It was crazy how mature she acts for a child not even a year old yet.
Unconciously, he turns to look at the calendar in his room and at the date circled with a red pen. He sighed. Satomi's birthday was tomorrowㅡ at least the birthday that he and Kurogiri thought of, they didn't know the day she was specifically born so they settled for Febuary 14.
His mind was now drifting away from Satomi and the show, him biting his lower lip and fiddling with his fingers as he thought of what to do for his child's first birthday. He wanted to give her a present but then again, children toys and other things were too pricey for their worth. Satomi didn't even play with the toys he's given her other than the chew toy. What kind of child doesn't like playing with toys?
He was a bit concerned, but then he remembered Satomi wasn't much of a normal child herselfㅡ advanced, intelligent and was already beginning to talk and walk all before the age of 1.
He was brought out of his thoughts when Satomi began slapping his thigh to gain his attention. He hummed with a smile as a response.
Satomi points at the paused screen that had been playing an ad. Dabi was surprised. Normally, when an ad would suddenly play, she would go into a small fit until he skipped it and allowed the show she had been watching to continue playing.
"You want me to skip?" He asked and began to move his hand to press the white button on the side, only for Satomi to take his hand and point at the screen with her own chubby ones and sounded out a "woah"
Dabi tilted his head, a little confused until he pursed his lips and nodded. "It is pretty."
"Mh mh!" The child showed a cute version of an angry expression. "Woaaahhh."
He decided to hide his growing confusion, smiled and mimicked her seemingly overexagerated woah. That made Satomi frustrated, "nuhh!"
"Whaaaat do you want?" Dabi groaned, playing frustrated.
"Woah!"
"..."
Satomi scrunched up her nose in frustration, but to Dabi, it wasn't anything but cute. Even if he didn't understand what the child was saying, he let out a sound of fake realization and nodded his head. "Okay. I understand now."
The two-tone haired child's expression didn't falter. Dabi sighed and hung his head in defeat. 'She's smart. Too smart for her own good.' "Alright... i'm sorry."
...
"Though of what to throw for Sami's birthday?" Toga looked over at the burnt villain, the male sitting on the broken couch of their new hideout as he sipped on his alcoholic beverage. Oh how much he missed the feeling of his throat being burnt from the inside. That was probably his only time to drink since Satomi was outside getting fresh air with Spinner since Kurogiri was gone.
