Lesther's POV

Our practice ended a while ago. I'm having a drink with the good guy - Ryan.

"Hindi na ko magtataka kung bakit pinauna mo na sila. Mukhang mahaba-habang usapan 'to." sabay lagok niya sa San Mig Light.

"Do you like her?" I asked.

He stopped halfway. " No."

I felt odd and unconvinced.

"Then how do you see her? Ano siya para sa'yo?"

I won't let it slide.

"I just want to protect her. I want her happy. I want to be her shoulder to cry on, and everything else you failed to do. Kahit substitute lang, gusto kong maging "ikaw" para sa kanya."

I clenched my jaw. Mas lalong humigpit yung kapit ko sa boteng hawak ko.

"So, gusto mo nga siya?"

"Hindi nga, pre." He said relaxed.

Hindi na ko nakapagpigil. Kinwelyuhan ko siya.

"Cut the crap, Ryan! Stop denying. I'm not stupid!"

Kinwelyuhan niya rin ako.

"If you're not, then you should know better. Hindi ko siya gusto kasi MAHAL KO SIYA! Pero putek na 'yan, ikaw pa rin yung mahal niya."

Dahan-dahan siyang bumitaw at halos walang lakas na bumalik sa pagkakaupo.

I was stunned. I'm an idiot after all.

"Tatayo ka na lang ba? Mangagawit kang makipag inuman niyan, sige ka."  He smirked.

He's now back to his usual self. Umupo ako like he implied.

"Kwento mo." sabi ko.

Inubos niya muna 'yung natitirang alak sa bote niya bago nagsimula.

"Two years ago, on that day. I saw her running habang umiiyak. Sinundan ko siya sa may tambayan. Apparently, she heard you talking to manager about Jenny.."

Sabi ko na nga ba.. she was there. Akala ko namamalik-mata lang ako.

"Kinabukasan, she blocked all of us. Basta lahat ng taong konektado sa'yo. Umalis rin siya sa apartment na tinutuluyan niya even in the company she used to work. Nagpabalik-balik ako sa apartment niya for 6 months until one day, I saw her.."

I also went to her apartment hoping I'd see her again, for months, but tough luck.

"...I didn't want to miss the chance so I begged her to keep in touch by promising I wouldn't tell anyone, especially you. At first she was hesitant but eventually said yes.."

"Saan siya nagstay for the past years? How about her work?" di ko napigilang itanong.

"Kila AJ, workmate niya. She stayed in the same company but requested to work from home for a year."

That's a relief.

May bigla akong naalala.

"Don't tell me sa tuwing MIA ka, you're with her?" di makapaniwalang tanong ko.
