Chapter 1- Unusually Usual

Days passed slowly here in the St. Athes Mental Hospital. Everyone here thought I was crazy, so I learned from my mistake and haven't uttered a word since I got here. The nightmares have been as worse as ever. I wake up drenched in sweat and blood. The doctors thought I was inflicting myself so I was almost constantly in a straight jacket. Of course, that never stopped the endless streams of injuries. The doctors were stumped. They couldn't figure out how I kept on hurting myself when I couldn't move.

So instead of that proving I wasn't crazy, they kept me here under more surveillance, testing. I have been in this 'prison' since I was 11 and I'm 17 now. My birthday was in a few days but even though I would be an adult, I wouldn't leave this insane asylum. In fact, I would be moved to a different building where they kept the 'stronger' cases. Or so I've been told. I knew that once I turned 18 that I would get the official title of 'Insane'. My freedom, no matter how little it is now, would be shot. I could hardly wait.

My days here consisted of the same routine. After endless hours of terrorizing dreams, I would wake up at 8am and have some 'nice' ladies clean my wounds. Then I would be escorted to breakfast. After that I would be taken to my psychiatrist, who would try and get me to talk about my said craziness. Lunch was soon after and then they would put me through some tests. Apparently everyone here thought I was schizophrenic so I would meet with people who are. I would also meet with a couple other groups who were depressed, suicidal, or just plain crazy people before going to another psychiatrist. The doctors were decided I would be put in all of these groups since I had all of these tendencies. After all of that, I would eat dinner and attempt to go to sleep. Throughout the whole day, might I add, I was in my strait jacket. It was quite annoying because people had to feed me and since I refused to talk, it was difficult to tell them when to stop shoving water down my throat. I could complain about how my life is crap but since it happens every day, like always, I won't say a word.

*Bright green flashed before me, covering everything. Then just as suddenly as it came, it disappeared and in its place a dreary wasteland. I was in some sort of clearing with wizened and bent trees surrounding me. The ground was running with blood; the trees and bushes shuddering with horror. The sky above held no mercy and was a bleak grey. Bodies lay scattered across the clearing, looking burnt. I shivered with disgust. Low feral growls erupted from my left. I swing my head and star, looking for the source of the noise. This happens every time but I can't help but let out a startled gasp when it comes out of the shadows. The Thing is hideous because honestly, that's what it was, a Thing. Short, matted black hair protruded from every direction. Red malicious eyes glared through its nasty hair. The Thing looked like a 9 foot tall, hungry wolf. It snarled, eyes gleaming with rage, right before it attacked me. Running with hatred, it leaped and tackled me. The force of it made me scream as I desperately tried to push it away. Its jaws snapped at my shoulder, drawing a long red gash. Meanwhile its claws ripped at my waist. I screamed out in agony, the pain driving me to hysteria. I could feel myself slipping away, which was new because I've never passed out in a dream before. Deciding it was a bad idea, I screamed louder, trying to wake myself up. Deep humorless laughter filled the air as I struggled against oblivion. It's the same maniacal laugh that along with the monster has stalked my thoughts ever since I've had these dreams.
