i anxiously paced around my room waiting for lauren and emily to arrive at my house. i knew they would be ecstatic to hear what happened but i wasn't sure if they could ease my stress about it. i had a million thoughts going through my head from the minute i was dropped off at my house yesterday until now. they ranged from 'does he like me?' to 'did it mean nothing to him?' to 'oh my god what if i read the signs wrong and that's why he was so hesitant?".
i couldn't think of any situation that would prove that johnny might actually like me. i mean sure he flirted a little bit but i just assumed that was his personality. but the fact that he didn't say a word to me after we were interrupted and hasn't texted me at all since then would prove my theory about me reading the signs wrong.
before i could get too deep back into my thoughts, i saw emily's car pull into my driveway. i met them downstairs and quickly greeted them before leading them to my room.
"so what's up?" lauren asked as she sat down on my bed.
"it's not really that big of a deal it's just kind of big to me but i don't really-" i rushed out.
"e, slow down." lauren said.
"it's ok, just tell us," emily insisted.
"ok so when john took me to the ledge, not much happened but long story short, we kissed." i explained.
"oh my god!" lauren shouted with a huge smile on her face.
"wait, 'long story short'? i want the full story!" emily exclaimed.
so i explained to them what exactly happened as they stared at me, eagerly.
"i can't believe we interrupted that." lauren expressed, "i'm so sorry, from a distance you just looked like you were standing next to each other which wasn't anything out of the ordinary."
"wait so what happened after?" emily asked.
"that's the problem," i sighed, "he hasn't even tried to speak to me since then so what if i was wrong and he didn't want to kiss me and i just screwed everything up."
"you didn't screw everything up." lauren assured before wrapping her arm around me.
"yeah, i'm sure he's just as stressed out as you are about it and he's probably just not sure how to approach you." emily replied.
"well a simple 'hey' would suffice." i groan.
"but that could make you think that he's blowing it off." lauren suggests.
"yeah, i guess you're right."
after a few more hours the girls decided to go home and at the door lauren reminded me not to worry about it too much because 'everything will work out on it's own'. i went back up to my room and as i payed back down on my bed i saw a notification from 'j'. i hurriedly unlocked my phone to see what he had sent. it just said 'meet me outside in 5 minutes' which made me even more anxious about what his intentions were.
i returned to pacing back and forth around my room and checking the time every few seconds. the second i saw his car turn onto the street i basically ran downstairs and slipped on the first pair of shoes i could find. before i walked outside i reminded myself that i was overreacting and it probably meant nothing to him anyway and he was just coming to clear things up.
as i stepped outside i felt the slight mist of the soon approaching rainstorm and johnny got out of his car and walked toward me.
"hey," i mumbled.
"hey," he replied.
"not to be rude, but what are you doing here?" i asked.
"honestly," he took a step closer to me, "i wanted to talk to you about what happened at the beach the other day."
"oh ok," i said.
"i don't know about you but i was a little upset that we got interrupted." johnny admitted, nervously scratching the back of his neck.
"i- really?" i asked in shock.
"well yeah but if you aren't then i can just go back home now so we can forget this happened." he said shyly.
"no, no you should stay." i laughed.
before either of us got to say anything more, the drizzle of rain became heavier and started pouring down. raindrops soaked us both, our clothes sticking to us like another skin. we stared at each other for a few more seconds before johnny grinned widely. he outstretched his hand and bowed toward me.
"may i have this dance?" he asked with a fake posh accent.
"what?" i laughed, "there's no music."
"so?" johnny shrugged.
i matched his grin and grabbed johnny's hand. his hands slid down to my waist and mine were placed around his neck. we swayed back and forth as we danced in the rain. after a few minutes we slightly pulled away from each other and stared into the other's eyes. i felt the world around us start to disappear.
johnny took one of his hands off of my waist and placed it under my chin and pulled my face closer to his. and for the second time, our lips met.
