"So he didn't text?" Hina asked me after she thanked our server. She took a piece of pizza placed it on my plate and then took another one for herself. She continued, "But it's weird I mean it was not compulsory for him to text but still." She stopped talking as the waiter came to place a bottle of water on our table. We had gone out for pizza to our favorite place since it had been weeks since we had seen each other. The atmosphere of the café was pretty good; apart from two or three couples it was pretty empty, everyone was just having a peaceful time.
"It's not weird we just over thought about it. I mean the guy just literally helped me and we deconstructed the shit out of his actions."
"Alright I agree we probably over thought a tad bit but I still think he will contact you."
"Nope I am not falling for this shit again. I have no expectation seriously and the most I can hope is that my name disappears from his social media list as if I never existed. I am so embarrassed."
"Stop being a dramatic ass seriously it's not a big deal. What's the worst that could happen? What don't give me that look you know you're over reacting?"
"Whatever man from now on food is my new best friend you don't..."
A shout broke the atmosphere diverting our attention to the chaos happening outside; we were still seated as the manager left the café in the hurry to see what was going on. From the window an elderly man who seemed to be a street vendor could be seen crying and screaming frantically as he pointed towards a certain direction. The people surrounded the area forming a large crowed, a few police men along with the army men on the duty broke through the crowd running towards the direction the man pointed at. A sudden feeling of fear arose in the air what was going on? Was it a terrorist attack? By this time the manager came back inside he was asked by one of the customers about the situation outside.
"A murder" he replied, "the old man found a dead body of a man in the bushes in the adjacent park, the man seemed to have been tortured and then killed."
"Was it an encounter?" the customer, a young man, asked.
"Well that is what is being speculated but no one is sure. It can be a simple crime as well but yaha toh aisa hota nahi hai.*"
"Kya hakiv waenith khuda Karin sahal"*
Hina and I shared a look trying to accept the fact that we were near a crime scene just sitting a few meters away from the body. An ambulance came to take away the body while the crowd of people was being pushed by the police. We decided it was high time that we leave the place as it was never safe to stay at such places especially in Kashmir; calling the waiter we asked him to wrap the food up for us to take home and to get the bill.
As we were leaving the café I realized that the police had sealed the front of the park where I suppose the old man had found the body in the bushes. It is quite a weird place to drop the body as if the person wanted it to be seen. The people being their gossip selves were still not ready to move away from the crime scene.
"I can't believe that we witnessed something like this. I mean what are the chances I hope the police can really figure out who did this." I said to Hina as we started to move away from the crime scene.
"It's either an interrogation gone wrong or a simple betrayal in the rebel groups. It can't be anything else people get mobbed but no one has ever been tortured and then killed. Plus I even doubt the torture theory it can be just rumors."
Passing the police patrol car I notice that several policemen were standing in front of the back door which was slightly open and inside the old man was sitting with what seemed like some higher police official. I removed my gaze as I realized one of the police men had seen me looking and I knew it with surety that he wouldn't appreciate my curiosity.
"I hope so your right. Come on let's get going I don't like the vibe of this place." I pulled Hina by her arm and started to move quickly.
