Hey! Liz, how did the test go?" asked Abrar, one of my classmates as we all were leaving the classroom.
"I think it went ok but I am still confused about certain questions. What option did you right for questions 12, 38, 39, 40, 47, 49 and 50?"
"Those were not even in our syllabus so I didn't attempt them."
"I think they are from the tutorial sections but I am not sure. Will check them all once I go home."
"Oh! You're leaving already? I was going to ask others for the answers do you want to join me?"
"No I have to meet Marwa and others at Books and Bricks she is waiting for me there since one and a half hour."
"Ah! Lucky she got done with her exam in the first half. Anyways see you later. Bye."
"Bye"
I turned around to walk towards the main gate of the college. Putting my earphones on the voice of Garbage hit my eardrums singing only happy when it rains ---
I'm only happy when it rains
I'm only happy when it's complicated
And though I know you can't appreciate it
I'm only happy when it rains
You know I love it when the news is bad
Why it feels so good to feel so sad?
I'm only happy when it rains
Pour your misery down
Pour your misery down on me
Pour your misery down
Pour your misery down on me
I'm only happy when it rains
I feel good when things are goin' wrong
I only listen to the sad, sad songs
I'm only happy when it rains
I only smile in the dark
My only comfort is the night gone black
I didn't accidentally tell you that
I'm only happy when it rains
You'll get the message by the time I'm through
When I complain about me and you
I'm only happy when it rains
It was raining again today and the song perfectly fitted the surrounding mood. There had been a wet spell throughout the week due to which I had to reschedule my trekking plans to Wednesday of the coming week I was honestly looking forwards to it but the weather was not in the favor. I heard a car honking behind me so I stepped aside just to give it some more space along with the some other students since it was a small path and continued to walk towards my destination. My college was quite a beautiful site to hold in the month of autumn especially when it rained, its main entry was covered by a canopy of trees planted on both sides of the road giving it a kind of gothic look in fact the main building was also inspired and built like old gothic buildings. It had conical rooftops with----
"LIZA!"
I jumped around to see Abrar with his hand on my shoulder. Removing my earphones i asked him--
"What happened? God! You scared me. "
"Sorry to startle you but you were not stopping I guess I didn't realize you were wearing earphones."
"Uh... Yeah it's fine. So why were you calling me?"
Abrar looked down a little embarrassed and I realized that he didn't have an umbrella but before I could tell him that he can share mine he suddenly spoke up, "How is Marwa now?"
"Marwa? She is good?"
"Do you think maybe you could talk to her about me? It's been quite awkward between us since that day and I just want everything to be normal between us."
"Normal? Abrar you confessed to her and then asked her to leave her boyfriend. How do you even assume things will not be awkward?"
"You know how I feel, how I have always felt. I know it was a mistake on my part I was angry and hurt by her rejection I... Listen please just tell her I don't regret what I said or did but I just hope she will give me a chance to explain myself."
"I will convey your message but I can't promise that she will respond and I would appreciate it if you would not talk to me about this issue after all I am her friend and if she doesn't want me to get involved in her business then I won't. I am getting late. Bye"
No longer in mood to listen to the song I switched it off and put the earphones into my pocket. It was two o clock but the clouds and rain made it seem like it was past five, the rain was also heavy now; I crossed the road in a hurry making the rainwater splash on my red rubber boots. From the footpath, beside the café I saw through the large window Marwa and some acquaintances, they waved towards me and I moved quickly towards the door. I stopped to close my umbrella which suddenly got jammed. While I was busy with this I didn't realize that someone had come out of the café and I was blocking their way; as soon as the umbrella closed I swiftly turned around to go inside however instead of the door my door I slammed against a chest wearing black sweater. I lost my balance and started to fall backwards, my umbrella fell down and the man reached out to hold my waist to prevent me from falling down. I heard a small "ah" and I looked up at the man's face to see whom I had injured. My eyes made contact with the familiar hazel eyes and I realized with horror that my victim turned out to be the same hazel-eyed man who's even mere thought I was avoiding.
