"This is what it means to be in Blue Lock. Let the first selection begin." There was silence as the screen clicked off and the image of Ego disappeared.
I couldn't help the grin that took over my features. Finally, we get some action.
"Well come on then," Kuon called with a sigh, turning towards the door. "We've still got training for the day. Let's get it over with."
As we made our way down to the gyms, I embraced the feelings of excitement that coursed through me. A real match, I thought, situating myself under the bar of my bench press. This is it. Our first test.

Tray in hand, I scanned the dining hall. Normally, none of us sat with each other during meals, partially because we all came back from the showers at different times, but upon spotting the dark blue hair of Isagi, I made my way across the room.
"Hey," I spoke, taking a seat across from him before grabbing my chopsticks to dig into my (pitiful) meal.
"Oh, hey," Isagi said, somewhat surprised, looking up from his natto.
"So," I started after taking a bite. "Our first match is tomorrow against Team X, huh? I wonder how it's gonna go with them being two ranks above us and all."
"Yeah, I was thinking the same thing," he sighed and looked back down at his food, though he only picked at it. "It's probably going to be tough figuring out positioning before the game since we're all strikers."
"In the match too." I turned my head to look back at the food line thoughtfully. "I mean, there's a reason I'm not a defender."
Isagi laughed humorlessly from across the table. "Yeah, I think everyone's feeling the same way."
"Even the other team," came a voice from behind, making me jump. Bachira took a seat to my right.
He has got to stop doing that, I thought bitterly, letting out a breath as Bachira shot us both a wide smile.
"I mean, we're not the only ones who've thought of this, I'm sure," he shrugged, breaking apart his chopsticks.
Right, I thought. The other team is going to be just as much of a mess as we are.
"Even so," Bachira continued. "We just need to play together. It's still football, even if we're all strikers."
"Yeah," Isagi said darkly. "I just wonder how well that's gonna work."
My mind was drawn back to what Ego had told us earlier that morning.
"It would be only natural for all of you to play as forwards... So our football will begin from that starting point. And from there, fix your knowledge of football from scratch."
Fix our knowledge of football? I was puzzled over the idea. And what does he mean by 'football from scratch'?
"Anyway, come on," Bachira said, standing up with his now empty tray. "We've got a long day ahead of us tomorrow and we're gonna need all the sleep we can get."
