… “Hey...”

“Umm hi, Victoria” I replied not sure how to feel about or encounter

“It’s been so long, how have you been?”

“I’ve been good...”

I was acting a little weird but she had really hurt me back then and I didn’t know how to react now.

“Look, I know that me talking to you now, like I don’t remember what happened, doesn’t excuse my actions from before but I thought that when we see eachother we could at least have small talk. ”

“We can but I just.. I don’t know if I ever want to talk to you that’s it. What you did is unforgivable at least for now”

“I understand, goodbye”

And she walked away.

I got home forgetting about our short conversation and buried myself in the world of cinematography.

After a while I got up to make tea and as I looked out the window I saw that it was nightfall. I liked looking at the millions of lights in the distance. So many lights, so many stories, all different, all probably have something in common but you never know. I liked the silence that my home brought, it made me feel in peace with my soul. My moment was interrupted by my phone announcing I received a message. It was from an unknown number. I opened it and read the following:

“Hey, it’s Victoria, I know you probably don’t care about my explanation but I feel like I owe it to you. Can I come over?”

She used to sleepover at my house all the time but that was a long time ago now I wasn’t sure, but I felt like I should give her a chance.

“Okay. This is my address… ”

After a few minutes I heard a ring.

“I’m at the door”

How did she get here so fast?

“Hi”

“Well that was fast”

“I didn’t go home after we met each other today and I assumed you lived near. I was wandering around the neighbourhood thinking how I could explain myself”

It was the last day of middle school, we were going to a graduation party and I was supposed to meet Victoria and her then boyfriend there. He was very sweet, he treated Victoria well, she got random gifts and notes sometimes and they used to spend a lot of time together. At that point they had been dating for about two months and me and Victoria had been friends for 7 years. He was a basketball player and Victoria danced like I did, so they supported each other when there was an event. Eventually she slowly started to pull away from me and I was the only one trying to get back to her and keep our friendship. It all seemed fine but the day of graduation was when it all broke down. Our dance group had prepared a little dance to end the year on a good note. When Victoria and her boyfriend arrived we both went to change into our outfits. It was almost time and I decided to run to the bathroom one last time. To my surprise I saw her boyfriend standing there.

“Can I help you?”

“Listen I know you are jealous of me and Victoria. I know you want me, so why don’t we fix that.”

“What are you saying, no, I’m happy for you two”

“Oh come on she doesn’t have to know”

I had been fed up with meeting boys like him. They act nice in front of their girlfriends and then they cheat on them.

“You know what you’re right I’m totally jealous. You can kiss me now”

And as he leaned in I kicked him where it hurt and ran back to the dressing room and told Victoria.

“Your boyfriend tried to kiss me but I hit him where I hurt most. Can you believe that, how could he do this to you…”

“What”

“I don’t know why he would ever do this”

“No, why would YOU do this”

“What do you mean”

“He was probably just joking don’t take it that seriously”

“Are you kidding me wha-”

“Get on stage, now” yelled our choreographer

We started our performance and half way through me and Victoria were supposed to pass each other when she tripped me over and I fell on the hard wooden floor. I landed on my wrist and broke it that day. How could she do this to me, I had to immediately go to the doctor and missed my whole graduation party. I was devastated…
