Kirk was stunned to see Cliff's car parked on the curb. It was kind of early; he was sure that Cassie was awake though, especially since Cliff's car was there.
He pulled into the driveway and knocked on the front door.
He took James' truck keys while he was sleeping, that way he could load his amps into it.
Cassie was now lying on her side while Cliff's head was laying in between her head and shoulder, his arm was draped over her torso.
The knocks on the front door made  her jump. She wasn't sure what time it was, but she knew it was too early for anyone to be at her house. She was hoping that the noise didn't wake Cliff up, he seemed so at ease.
Little did Cassie know, Cliff was already awake. He had been for about an hour. He didn't want to move in case he woke her.
Being close to Cassie in this way made his heart feel amazing. Everything felt right. His brain was telling him otherwise.
Cliff and Kirk had always been honest with each other. About everything and anything. This is the one thing Cliff had never spoken about with Kirk. He couldn't, that would be too awkward. He felt as if he was betraying a brother.
Cassie gently moved out of bed and tiptoed to the front door. She peeked out of the window to see Kirk patiently waiting to be let in.
Her heart began to race, she ran to the other side of the house and through the bedroom door open.
“Cliff!”
His head shot up, “What?”
“Kirk is here, go in the bathroom or something. Act like you just stopped by, I don't know!”
Cliff was a bit startled, he laid up in the bed for a moment.
If Cassie and Cliff decided to have a relationship together they would have to hide it; that was something Cliff wasn't sure if he could do.
Cassie opened the door and greeted Kirk with a smile.
“Hey, what are you doing here?” she asked nervously, hoping Kirk wouldn't notice.
“I came by to pick up my amps, I thought you'd be awake by now.” He hesitated for a moment, “But you look like you just woke up?”
“I, uh, haven't been up long. Cliff came just a few minutes ago, he woke me up.”
“Oh.” Kirk thought it was very strange for Cliff to be there. He wasn't going to ask about it, it wasn't any of his business.
“I'll just get my stuff and go. I won't bother you long.”
“Take your time Kirk, it's fine.”
Cassie went to the kitchen to fix some coffee while Kirk gathered his things.
Kirk could've sworn he saw someone quickly exit from the bedroom to the bathroom. It couldn't have been Cliff he thought to himself. Why would Cliff be in their bedroom? Well, Cassie's bedroom now.
Cliff stood in the bathroom for what felt like forever. He thought he heard Kirk leave for good, so he walked out of the bathroom. At the same moment, Kirk was gathering his last amp and almost ran into Cliff.
“Shit, sorry man,” Cliff blurted out, “need some help?”
“I got it, thanks.”
Cliff nodded and allowed for Kirk to go ahead of him.
“I'll come back in and say bye Cas,” Kirk stated as he went through the front door.
Cassie was now sitting on the couch drinking her cup of coffee.
“I guess I should go.” Cliff turned his back on the girl.
“Wait. Don't we need to talk.”
He turned to face her, “About?”
At that time Kirk walked back inside. He stood there for a moment assessing the situation he had just walked in on.
“Um, I was just going to tell you bye Cassie. So, bye, bye Cliff.”
Cliff and Cassie simultaneously said “Bye Kirk.”
Kirk gave them an awkward smile and left. He sat in James' truck for a few minutes. Something was off, the tension between Cliff and Cassie was strong. He wondered if they were mad at each other, or if they were mad at him?
“What happened last night, Cliff. Us?”
“What do you want me to say?”
“Did you like it?”
He stood there, just looking at her. “Yes,” he said almost silently.
“What?”
“Yes,” he responded this time confidently.
“I did too. It felt right. Didn't it?”
He nodded his head, “But it's not-”
“It's not right. Cause of Kirk, I get it.”
“So that's it.” He turned to walk away, once again.
“No, it can't be.”
“But its not right Cassie! We can't do that to Kirk. Even if it feels like we're supposed to be together.”
She was quiet, processing the words he had spoken. “You think we're supposed to be together?”
“Fuck,” he mumbled. “Last night, it, it was amazing. Everything about it. The last few days have been some of the best days of my life.”
“Then you agree, you felt it too? I've never experienced the amount of safety and comfort in my life until I was laying in your arms. I never felt like that with Kirk. I loved him, I always will, but this, this is something utterly different. I can't let it go. Not now.”
Cliff's continually racing heart calmed down. He understood every word she spoke, he felt it too. Maybe even stronger than she did. He couldn't let it win that easily, a fight had to be made. Too many things were on the line for him to simply agree with her and form a relationship.
“We have to think about other people Cassie, not just our selves. Remember that.”
“By other people you mean Kirk.”
“Not necessarily, James and Lars too. If mine and Kirk's friendship turns to shit it could cause problems for everyone. Everything.”
“Cliff. You know if you walk away from this, you won't be able to function. I noticed how you acted those last days on tour. You wouldn't spit it out. It was eating at you. Especially now, you've felt it first hand.”
“I know you're right.”
“Then don't go, not like this. Please?”
Reluctantly, he sat down. She hugged the skinny man. “Please Cliff. I don't know what I would do now. I need you.”

“I'm yours Cas. I'm yours.”
