Sometimes
In the dark, quiet night
I lie awake
Maybe worrying, maybe wondering
Certainly feeling
Some yet unnamed thing
So powerful my chest aches.Somewhere there's a rush of longing
For when we sang of mermaid melodies
Or fields of gold,
For when whispers sounded staccato as we told the story of those here first.
For when I could get lost in the sweep of sound and land gently, shakily as it ended.
For all the stars I held and the lost loves I lamented. And yet there's love there, too.
For all the longings,
For the times we laughed,
The times we danced,
The times we sang of joy, friendship, peace.Love that says "this is who you are."
That won't let me forget
How it feels to make music,
To stand under those lights and give it my all,
To sing until my voice is gone,
And the next day do it twice more.Love that says "you're coming back."
