For Auld Lang Syne

I send my voice out over the crowd,
Over my dear friends, my family,
Hoping they can feel it too-
The caress of this magic we create.
It starts as a gentle undercurrent
In the sweet voices of the children
Then, in the final verse,
Swells,
Pouring from our hearts and mouths,
Looping through linked arms,
Mingling with candle-smoke...
For a moment,
We hold fast to our dear ones
And strangers alike,
Connected through one force-
And as the last sustained notes fade
to nothing,
My eyes fill with tears
Of hope, of love,
For Auld Lang Syne.
