Dipper changed his shirt at least 4 times preparing for this date, he wanted to look perfect for his crush, but whatever he wore he felt like he was trying too hard, which he definitely was.
Earlier in the week he had gotten the courage to finally ask out Eric, a friend he had made at the beginning of his senior year.
The two were to meet at one of the fanciest restaurants in Gravity Falls, and Dipper was planning on taking him to the water tower at sunset, which was his official secret hang out spot no one else had known about since everyone thought it was unstable and dangerous.Checking his phone, Dipper noticed he was 5 minutes early to their date and decided it was too cold for him to wait for Eric outside.
Entering the restaurant and following the hostess to his table, Dipper found himself more nervous than he anticipated. Once again checking his phone and looking at the time, he saw it was 5:30pm on the dot, but no sign of Eric.
"It's ok Dipper, who arrives exactly on time." Dipper mumbled to himself, trying to calm his nerves.5 minutes have passed, and still no sign of Eric, not even a text.
"Can I get you started with anything?" The waitress asked in the expected peppy tone of voice.
"Um no I'm ok, I'm just waiting for someone." The waitress nodded and went to serve another table, leaving Dipper alone with his thoughts.12 minutes, 12 glances at the window and 12 at his phone, Dipper began to get a little worried.
"Do you maybe want to order a drink?" The same waitress from before asked, her tone a little less energetic and more worrisome.
"Maybe a little later, I'm still waiting." Dipper knew by the way the waitress looked at him that his tone wasn't convincing, but he didn't want to accept the fact that he's probably been stood up.19 minutes and counting, people began staring at Dipper with the apologetic looks as if they knew exactly what happened.
"Are you sure you don't want-"
"Just a few more minutes!" Dipper replied, cutting off the waitress a little louder than he wanted to. Although she didn't seem to mind, given the situation.25 minutes exactly, Dipper decided to call it. It's clear what had happened and how stupid he had been, now he just had to find a way to leave without embarrassing himself more than he already has.
Just as he started to stand up someone had grabbed his shoulder.
"I'm so sorry I'm late babe my boss wouldn't let me leave and my phone died!" The strange boy said, obviously loud enough so everyone could hear. He pulled Dipper in for a hug which Dipper was hesitant to return, seeing as he had no idea who this boy was.
"My names Bill, just go with it." He whispered before letting go of the boy and sitting down.
as if on cue, the same waitress returned looking happier than before.
"What would you gentlemen like to start off with?"
"I'd just like a water please." Bill answered, completely casual as if he was meant to be there.
"And you Sir?" She asked Dipper, although he didn't answer as he was still trying to wrap his head around what was going on.
"He'll have a Pitt Cola in a cup, extra ice if you can." Bill answered for Dipper, earning a smile and a nod from the waitress, and a confused look from Dipper as to how he knew his exact drink order.
"I'll be back with your drinks shortly." As the waitress walked away she turned around to look at Dipper, pointing at Bill from behind him and giving a thumbs up as if saying 'good choice!'.
As soon as the waitress left Bill picked up a menu.
"So what should we order? It's on me of course." Bill asked in a once again casual tone like he didn't just see a lonely boy through a window and decide to help him out.
"C-could we maybe start with who you are and why you're here?" Dipper whispered frantically.
"Right, well I actually work across the street, I kept looking over here and I saw you through the window all alone and figured 'Hey, why waste a good reservation'."
"So you were watching me then?" Dipper asked, slightly creeped out.
"I saw someone who needed help and decided to help. Simple as that." He stated, not looking up from the menu.
"O-oh." The two were quiet after that, reading their menu's.
"Whoever stood you up was an idiot, I hope you know that." Dipper looked up at the boy, seeing a small smile on his face causing him to smile back. He didn't notice it before but Bill was insanely attractive, he wondered why someone like him would waste his time on a fake date with someone he didn't even know.
"T-thanks, h-he is I guess." Dipper replied, trying to hide the blush on his face and the fact that he couldn't stop staring at Bill.
But Bill did notice, and smirked behind the menu before changing the topic and saving Dipper from even more embarrassment.
"So I was thinking about getting the lobster but that sounds really fancy for my taste, what do you think?" He asked Dipper, who once again smiled.
"It's not all it's hyped up to be, my sister came here on a date once and we ended up keeping the lobster as a pet for a while." Dipper found himself less nervous than before, although he didn't know the boy there was something strangely familiar about him and he felt like he could be himself.
"The chicken it is then, you think they serve that alive too?" Bill joked, causing Dipper to laugh slightly.
"I mean they've let a horse in here once so I don't really know what to expect." Dipper replied, causing Bill to laugh as well.
Moments later their drinks had came and they gave their order, afterwards the two once again sat in silence, and although there was less tension, Dipper wanted the two to talk, he found himself wanting to get to know Bill.
As if he had read his mind, Bill began a game of 20 questions, although they didn't get too far as Dipper always struggled with coming up with questions beyond one's favorite color or food.
"Here's your order, anything else I can do for you two?" The two plates were set in front of the boys, who both shook their heads indicating that they were fine, and the waitress walked off.The rest of dinner consisted mostly of Bill and Dipper sharing stories or continuing 20 questions, until it was time for the check and the end of what seemed like an almost perfect night.
"I got it." Said Bill, grabbing the check just as Dipper was reaching for it.
"I can't ask you to do that." Dipper insisted, attempting to reach for the check.
"Seriously it's fine, I had a really fun time with you, the least I could do is pay for dinner." Bill reached into his back pocket grabbing his wallet.
Dipper sighed, seeing as he probably wasn't going to convince him otherwise and he didn't want to end the night arguing, or rather he didn't want to end the night at all.
"A-at least let me pay for desert, there's an ice cream shop that's open late a few miles away from here." Dipper tried, praying he didn't sound desperate.
"Does Dipper Pines want to keep hanging out with a total stranger?" Bill teased, earning a fairly visible blush from Dipper.
"I-I just want us to be even so I don't have to worry about it later that's all." Dipper replied, refusing to fully look up at Bill, who was probably smirking.
"What if I'm a murderer or something?" Bill asked laughing, enjoying seeing how flustered Dipper was becoming.
"I've faced worse." Dipper replied, finally looking up. For a split second Bill looked saddened by the statement, but quickly masked it and stood up.
"M'lady." Bill joked, extending his arm for Dipper to grab.
"Such a gentleman." Dipper said sarcastically, linking arms with Bill. The two walked out of the restaurant laughing at their antics and headed to Dippers car.
Dipper released his arm to grab his key, and Bill walked to the opposite side of the car as Dipper unlocked it, one thought going through both of their heads. This should be fun.
