After their discussion, Huo Xiang and Bai Zhen Zhen walked out of the room and went to the living room.

The TV in the living room was still bustling with the broadcast, but Father Bai looked like he wasn't in the mood to continue watching, just sitting silently on the sofa with his head down, seemingly pondering over something.

Yang Su Ping was sitting next to him on a chair, also twisting her mouth.

"Dad, what's the matter? Do you feel unwell?" Bai Zhen Zhen asked with doubts.

Father Bai raised his head to glimpse at Bai Zhen Zhen, then at Huo Xiang, and asked them: "In the end, what are you planning to do? Did you make it clear? "

Bai Zhen Zhen didn't understand: "What do you mean, what we plan to do? Huo Xiang's matter, he should have explained it to you just a moment ago ah, and I also just learnt of it."

"Zhen Zhen, now his identity is different, he is now the young master of the richest man's household, we are unworthy of standing next to him!" Father Bai stood upas he spoke, walked until he was facing Bai Zhen Zhen, and held her hand. "It's better to forget about your marriage with him as soon as possible, alright?"

No need to mention Huo Xiang, Bai Zhen Zhen looked like she couldn't believe what she heard.

She asked, astonished: "Dad, I don't understand what you mean. Huo Xiang has finally found his family, we should feel happy on his behalf, how can you oppose our marriage so suddenly?"

"Zhen Zhen! Dad is saying this for your own good ah! Why can't you understand?!" Father Bai's mouth hated the iron for not becoming steel.

Bai Zhen Zhen was flabbergasted.

Why did her kind and benevolent father abruptly change so much from one day to the other?!

--System: "Host, the system feels necessary to remind you that in the original book, when the protagonist wanted to be together with the male lead, her father was also against it."

--Bai Zhen Zhen: "You showed up just in time! If you didn't tell me, I would've forgotten. The protagonist's father was indeed against her marrying Leng Hao Chen with all his being, it looked like it was because Leng Hao Chen's family was extremely wealthy. The protagonist's father felt that she would be bullied after marrying."

--System: "That's right, according to the settings, the characters in the book will act according to their character design."

--Bai Zhen Zhen: "I see."

It turned out that the character design of Father Bai was a young hater that loathed the rich... no, it should be an elderly hater?!

"Uncle Bai, aren't you misunderstanding something?" Huo Xiang started to explain, "I have already told my grandfather about my marriage with Zhen Zhen. My grandfather was very happy, and he also said to invite your family to have dinner together. We have a reservation for the restaurant tonight!"

Father Bai still opposed, and said without any trace of politeness: "My thanks to your grandfather, but please tell him that our poor family are not qualified to go to the high-end restaurant you booked. Also, your and Zhen Zhen's marriage, if you haven't exchanged wine cups it's still not valid. Tomorrow, you can go complete the formalities for a divorce straight away."

"Dad!" When she heard that, Bai Zhen Zhen got angry, "What are you saying?! We already received our marriage certificate, how can it not be valid? Besides, Huo Xiang and his grandfather didn't do anything to offend you, why did you suddenly become so cold and indifferent?"

"Zhen Zhen, you're still young, you don't understand!" Father Bai tried to persuade Bai Zhen Zhen, "those wealthy people, not a single one is a good person! They have important families and great careers, if you marry them, you'll be bullied and will be left without any dignity! They look down on us poor people from the bottom of their hearts. I'd rather you were poor for a lifetime with an ordinary person than to push you into a fire pit!"

After hearing Father Bai's words, Bai Zhen Zhen was at a loss for words for a moment.

She understood. Before, her father had agreed with her marriage to Huo Xiang not because she liked Huo Xiang, but rather because he himself thought that Huo Xiang was a proper person.

Footnotes:

1: 恨铁不成钢 to hate iron for not becoming steel (idiom) -> to feel resentful towards sb for failing to meet expectations, in this case because Bai Zhen Zhen doesn't share his opinion.
2: in reference to traditional Chinese wedding, where the marriage only became effective after the couple exchanged their glasses of wine and consummated their relationship in bed.
