Isen's POV
After breakfast, I stood outside with Blyke, Percy, Annabeth and Rosie as we discussed how things were going to work in terms of the research and Rosie's training.
'So,' Annabeth began, 'I think that, bearing in mind we don't want to overwork Rosie, we should follow this arrangement only in the mornings, and then can relax in the afternoons.'
We all nodded, and Blyke asked, 'where are we actually going to do this though? The arena place, maybe?'
Annabeth shook her head, as did Percy, and she replied, 'Chiron isn't really that keen about our idea of training Rosie, so it might be better to lay low for a while, you could use the woods as there are less likely to be other people there.'
I still didn't really understand why Chiron was so opposed to Rosie learning more about her ability but I supposed I could ask Annabeth later, we had quite a lot of time, after all.
'So, is that all?' Blyke asked, clearly eager to see how much of the woods they could blow up in one morning.
'Yes, I think that's everything, and Percy?' Annabeth called to her boyfriend as he made towards the woods, 'please try to keep the woods intact.'
Percy grinned, kissed Annabeth quickly, said 'no promises' and ran off with Rosie and Blyke before she could protest. Annabeth smiled as she watched Percy lift Rosie up to sit on his shoulders as he ran, and I couldn't help but grin too. Percy was one of those rare people who could be completely childish and playful, yet still protective and trustworthy.
'Where are we going to do our research and stuff then?' I asked, turning to Annabeth.
'You technically aren't allowed in the Athena cabin since you aren't a child of Athena, but then again, you aren't a child of any other god so hopefully it won't matter as much...' Annabeth mused as I stood there feeling a little stupid at having no idea what any of the rules were.
At last, she came to a decision and said, 'it should be okay, and we're breaking the rules by training Rosie anyway. It's this way.'
As we walked, I decided to ask more about Chiron.
'Why's Chiron so opposed to us helping Rosie anyway?' I asked, probably not as delicately as I could have considering Annabeth clearly admired him, but she didn't seem to take offence. I hoped she hadn't, at least.
She frowned and said, 'he does have good reason, it is dangerous to teach Rosie.'
'Why though?' I asked, 'we're just helping her understand her ability.'
'It's more complicated than that,' Annabeth said, raising her eyebrows as if to ask if I really thought anything could be simple. I guess she was right though, it's going a bit far to expect simplicity in a world with gods and centaurs and demigods in orange t-shirts.
I was going to question Annabeth further but didn't get the chance to as she stopped abruptly in front of a grey cabin with an owl carved over the doorway, which I assumed mean it to be the Athena cabin. I followed her into the cabin, finding it filled with desks, whiteboards, craft tables, anything you would expect to find in a school. I looked around, surprised at finding it so different to the Hermes cabin; the beds were all pushed to one side and there were more books than I had seen probably in my entire life. I watched Annabeth push aside endless drawings and pencils on one of the desks.
'Sorry,' she apologised, pushing her hair out of her face, 'I'm still designing some extras for Olympus in my free time, although all of the necessary building work is done.'
I stared at her in disbelief. I didn't think I'd ever stop being shocked at these demigods, first I found out that they existed, then that they lived in a camp in New York, and now that they design things for the gods, in their free time no less! Or maybe that was just Percy and Annabeth, they certainly seemed to hold some authority over the other campers, from what I'd heard, they were practically celebrities.
'Okay so I was considering how we were going to do this and don't you think it would be a good idea if we just found out as much about each other's worlds as possible before trying to see how they fit together?' Annabeth asked, though I'll admit I was a bit busy gawping at just how many books there were in one cabin.
'I- sorry what did you say?' I asked sheepishly, reminding myself that I needed to actually concentrate.
Annabeth sighed, muttered something that sounded suspiciously like 'are all boys like this?' and repeated her suggestion.
'Yeah, I think that would be a good idea,' I said.
'Okay, you start,' Annabeth said briskly, feeling around for a pen and paper to take notes on everything I said. She faced me, legs crossed and with an expectant expression. It was very intimidating; I was beginning to realise how scary it must be for people when I interview them.
'Well,' I said, 'I wasn't really aware that there were people who didn't have abilities, so it's possible that where I come from it's simply something from that area, because we managed to get the train here so-'
Annabeth cut in, 'don't worry about that, just tell me everything about your world, although it is interesting that you managed to get here simply by train.'
'Okay.'
I took a deep breath and began to explain the hierarchy.
