Isen's POV

As we hurried down the corridor, discussing excitedly about how pleased the Headmaster was going to be, I couldn't help but feel proud of myself for finally finding a high-tier. Blyke also seemed to be in a positive mood, well, positive for him anyway. My best friend has one of those faces that just appears grumpy, all the time, and usually I'm the only one who can tell if he's actually sulking or not. We finally arrived outside the head's office and hesitated for a split second, before I knocked on the door. A quiet but firm 'come in' sounded from inside. Blyke and I sidled in, suddenly nervous at actually being face to face with Headmaster Vaughn and Keene, who was standing to the side of the desk. When we entered, Keene left, giving us a small nod as he passed.

'So,' began Vaughn, his stern yet friendly eyes passing over first me then Blyke, 'what can I do for you two boys today?'

'W-well,' I stammered, forgetting how to form full sentences.

'We found what we think is a high-tier!' Blyke said for me, not bothering to conceal his pride at having completed the task.

'Really?' said the headmaster, his eyes twinkling as he sat forwards, clearly interested, 'and do you have any details of the whereabouts of this new high-tier?'

'Yes, we do,' I replied, eager to share our information, 'the boy is called Percy Jackson and he lives in an apartment in Manhattan with his mother Sally and step-father Paul.'

Vaughn's expression altered to something unreadable. 'What is Paul's surname, Isen?'

'Blofis. We were wondering if we would be allowed to go and check it out before bringing the guy to Wellston.'

His expression visibly darkened, and his hands clenched the sides of his chair. I wasn't sure what was going on.

'Absolutely not,' he finally said, his voice cold and resolute. 'I forbid you from going there and you would do well to drop the subject for good.'

'But, sir-' began Blyke, indignant at our week's work being shut down in half a second.

'Drop it,' Vaughn repeated, glaring at us.

I nudged Blyke to suggest we should just leave it and get out and he sighed and followed me out the door, muttering a less than half-hearted 'thank you' as he trudged out the office.

'What was that about!?' I protested incredulously, as soon as I was sure we were out of earshot, 'he seemed so pleased and then suddenly, boom, we're banned. Seriously!?'

Blyke actually seemed calmer than me. 'Yeah it is strange but you know what we have to do, right?'

I shook my head, utterly perplexed. Since our plan of finding this Percy Jackson had been shot down, I was planning to just watch Netflix all summer with Blyke. I had absolutely no plans to do anything that involved leaving my room.

'Well, surely you understand we have to go anyway. There's no way we're leaving a possible high-tier unexplored.'

I gaped at him. Break the rules? We would get into so much trouble when we got back. 'I-I don't know, Blyke, isn't it a little risky?'

'Well yeah but we'll be fine,' he said, slamming his toes into the floor as he walked along, me trailing behind him. He seemed utterly relaxed about the idea.

'What about Remi?' I asked, assuming he wanted her to come. I suspected he had a crush on her and probably planned to bring her along so he could spend time with her.

'She should stay,' he replied, after some thought. 'It could be dangerous.'

My heart sank. Of course that's the only reason he doesn't want her along.

'Also we'll be able to spend the summer together,' he added afterwards. He looked away as if slightly embarrassed when he said this but I was too preoccupied with the butterflies in my stomach to notice.

A few days later...

'Bye Remi!' we shouted as the train pulled out of the station, 'see you in a few days!'

Blyke and I had spent the last few days packing and arranging what we were going to do when we met our high-tier. We had told Remi what we were doing and sworn her to secrecy and, although she was a little miffed at not being allowed to come, she hadn't made much of a fuss, insisting she would prefer to lie in bed all day. I had a suspicion she also wanted to do some more research into Ember but I had complete faith she wouldn't get herself killed... mostly. Blyke and I decided to set off on the first day of the summer holidays and expected to be back within a few days, hopefully with a new student for Wellston, or simply a high-tier since I had forgotten to check the age of this Percy Jackson guy. I looked over at Blyke, I caught his eye and we shared a grin, both of us looking forward to what was to come.

Hi guys, it's me. Firstly, thank you so much for reading this :) and secondly, I wasn't sure whether or not to make Blyke and Isen involved romantically so I would be super grateful if you could comment and tell me which you would prefer. Hope you enjoyed this chapter!
