Flames from candles flickered around the room, but nothing burned brighter than Geralt's gaze as he stared at Lord Ostrit. Beneath the castle in Triss's laboratory, we stewed in the tension which had fallen from the revelation of the letters. The lord stood over Triss's desk with his back facing us, a shaking hand running over his face as he read the old Queen's cursive words.

"A queen mother cursing her own children for their affair." the lord stammered, dropping the letters onto the desk. "This could destroy the throne."

"That letter was written before Adda fell pregnant, or at least, before the Queen discovered that she had," I stated. "The Queen made it clear that she would not show them further mercy if they continued."

"Sancia wanted Adda to get rid of the child." Geralt agreed from where he was leant against one of the many red pillars. The affair between brother and sister had been confirmed in Queen Sancia's letters to her daughter, however, nothing framed Foltest as the one responsible for his sister's define and daughter's curse. In fact, the only one who seemed to have threatened Adda was her own mother who had written letter after letter, each one becoming more and more aggressive as time went by and her children continued to disobey her.

"Seems she refused. Repeatedly." Triss added.

"And now she's taken that curse with her to the grave." Lord Ostrit sighed in pity.

"You've served the family for decades. Was Sancia involved in dark sorcery of any kind?" Triss questioned the lord.

"No." Lord Ostrit scoffed at what he believed to be a preposterous question. "Of course not."

"What was your relationship to Adda?"

"Well, I like to think that she saw me as a confidant. And protector, even. We used to talk at great length about her troubles." He admitted, thumbing a splinter on the edge of the desk, "She could be very naïve."
