Chapter 4: The Confession
On the way back to Jake's Mountain, Everest could barely sit still. She was just so excited and couldn't contain her joy. The pup she's dreamed of being with for so long just asked her out on a date. Along with this feeling of joy came a barrage of questions. What should I wear? Where will we go? Should I get dressed up? Should I get my fur done?
These questions ceased once she heard her collar ring. Skye? What could she want? Maybe I left something at the Lookout? Before she started spiraling in questions again, she calmed herself down and answered the call.
"Hey Skye whats up?", said Everest into her pup tag.
"Oh nothing much. You on the other hand have a lot to talk about" said Skye.
"What do you mean?"
"You know, you and Chase's conversation before you left" said Skye putting extra emphasis on conversation.
"W-what!?"asked Everest as she began to blush, "How do you know about that!?"
"Weeeell, we may or may not have been spying on you and Chase from the lookout window,'' replied Skye.
"Wait a second we!? Who's we!?"
"Oh just me, Marshall, Rocky, Zuma, and Rubble, but don't worry about that" responded Skye nonchalantly, "So what did he say!?"
Hearing this sent a wave of embarrassment over the husky. Like Chase, she wasn't expecting an audience to their little show of affection.
"Well not much,'' replied Everest purposely leaving out the part about Chase's recent nightmares, "he just asked me out on a date".
"WHAT!?" yelled Skye, clearly shocked about the news, "What did you say?".
"Of course I said yes" said Everest shyly.
"That's Great! When's the date?"
"Tomorrow night actually"
"That's perfect because we have to get you ready for it", said Skye.
"What do you mean 'get me ready'?" asked Everest. Due to her time in the arctic she never really knew too much about society let alone dating.
"Well, you know. Get cleaned up. Make yourself look nice"
"What am I not nice looking already" joked Everest.
"Of course you are; but you need to look even better for the date. I'll help get you ready tomorrow before the date"
"Okay yeah that would be great. Thank you."
"Your welcome. This is so exciting!" exclaimed Skye.
"Before I go, Skye, I wanted to ask you something"
"Sure, what's up?"
"We never finished our conversation from earlier. Who do you like?"
This was Everest's chance to get back at Skye for spying on her and Chase. Now it was Skye's turn to be put on the spot.
"Well...uhh y-you see"
"Come on. I told you who I like. Its only fair if you tell me plus you said you would"
"Ok fine" said Skye knowing she wasn't going to get out of this, "I like Marshall. I have for a while now. There's just something about him. He's just so caring and funny and goofy all at the same time. It just makes my heart melt"
"Skye that's great. You should tell him. I'm sure he feels the same way"
"I-I don't know. Do you really think he does?"
"I'm sure of it" said Everest trying to encourage Skye.
"Okay I'll do it. I'll tell you how it goes when I see you tomorrow. Bye"
"Bye" said Everest as Skye ended the call.
Once Skye hung up she started thinking about how she was going to tell him while listing the pros and cons of it in her head.
"Okay so if he says yes, then that will be a dream come true. If he says no, then I'm sure he won't be too harsh about it. I mean he's caring, loving, compassionate. Thats why I love him"
Once she came back to reality she realized she was in front of Marshalls door. She lifted her paw up to knock but hesitated out of nervousness. After she composed herself, she knocked on the door.
"Who is it?" called Marshall from the other side of the door.
"It's Skye"
"Oh, Skye come in,'' said Marshall, "What's up?".
Skye froze at the realization of what she was about to tell the dally. Although she was nervous, the blue eyes she looked into were full of curiosity and compassion. They made her feel safe and washed away any insecurities she had about doing this. After a few minutes of silence and recollection, Skye spoke.
"Marshall, Ive been meaning to tell you something for a while. I uhh, I l-like you" said Skye.
After she said this, they both blushed a dark red.
"But I thought you had a thing for Chase?" asked Marshall. This was the last thing he expected to hear from the cockapoo.
"Well I did; but I just grew out of it. One of the causes being that stupid megaphone" said Skye as the two laughed.
"Skye" began Marshall "I like you too".
Overloaded with joy, Skye jumped to Marshall and kissed him. Marshall was taken back by this sudden outburst but slowly accepted the kiss. After they broke apart, Marshall spoke.
"Skye, would you like to go out with me?"
"I would love to" said Skye as the pair hugged.
"Hey, can I sleep with you tonight?" asked Skye shyly.
"Sure,'' replied Marshall, his face still red.
Marshall then walked over to his bed and laid down. He then pat a spot next to him on the bed. Skye walked over and laid down on his bed. She snuggled up next to him and then began to drift off to sleep. After she fell asleep Marshall put his paw over Skye and joined her in slumber.
