Chapter 2: The Explanation

"The Nightmares began a week ago and they've been haunting me ever since. I can't sleep, I can't work, I can't have fun and I just don't know what to do?" explained Chase.

"Can you explain to me what they're about? Maybe if I know more details we can find out what your dreams mean" questioned Everest.

"I like the idea but there's one problem, I don't entirely know what they're about."

"What do you mean?"

"What I mean is that I don't recognize anything in the dream"

"Ok, how about this? Start with what happens first and maybe that will jog your memory"

"Ok" responded Chase, a hint of nervousness in his voice, "It begins with me wearing some type of gear. When I look around I see another dog. A bulldog actually. I get this sudden urge to follow him. He eventually turns a corner and when I turn that corner him and another dog are arguing. I didn't understand what they were saying because it didn't sound english, but after a few minutes of arguing the bulldog takes out a gun and shoots the other dog. Before I can run everything goes dark and I fall to the floor. Then I wake up"

"That's scary" commented Everest "Have you ever been in that situation before. I mean with the amount of cases you've had surely you experienced something like that?".

"That's the thing, I've never had an experience like that. If I did I'm sure I would have remembered it by now " responded Chase.

"Do you remember anything specific from your dream? Like did that bulldog say anything you understood?" asked Everest trying to figure out as much as she could.

"Well, no. Like I said it seemed like they both were speaking a different language"

"Do you remember anything that you could understand?"

"There were two things actually. The first was a word on his jacket. I think I heard one of them pronounce it po-leets-eye(Politzei)" answered Chase slightly struggling to pronounce the word, "and the other was a badge on the bulldogs uniform. It looked like some kind of bird"

"Hmmm. Maybe we can ask someone" said Everest.

"I don't think anyone here knows what that symbol means. I mean with such little information how is anyone supposed to figure out what these things are" said Chase slowly getting frustrated with himself for not remembering enough information.

"Hey, don't beat yourself up over this" said Everest, "It's not your fault if you can't remember".

"There is also one more weird part about the dream"

"What is it?"

"It's the way I was seeing it. Usually if I had a dream I would know it's a dream, but this felt so real. I just hope we can find out what all this means"explained Chase.

"I hope so too, otherwise I don't know what..."

"Everest where are you!" said a worried voice,"I thought you were coming home an hour ago!"

"Oh my gosh Jake I'm so sorry I totally forgot!"

"That's okay dude,  just please be home soon"

"Okay Jake" said Everest as she ended the call.

"I guess I have to go," said Everest.

"Yeah I guess you do" said Chase, a hint of sadness lingering in his voice.

"Hey don't worry. I promise I'll help you figure out what this all means"

"Okay well, I'll see you later," said Chase.

"Okay see you later," said Everest as she exited Chase's room.

Once she left the room she walked towards the lookout exit. The doors slid open as she walked outside. The rain had stopped moments ago leaving in its place a cool breeze.

As Everest began to hop into her rig she heard a voice calling for her.

"Everest wait!" yelled Chase as he ran up to her.

"What's wrong" said a concerned Everest.

She didn't get a response as she was met with a hug. Her face turned redder than Marshall's fire truck as she greatly accepted the hug. After they broke apart Chase spoke.

"Thank you for helping me. I really appreciate it. I never brought it up with anyone because I didn't want to burden them with my problems."

"Oh it's no problem" responded Everest, her face still slightly red.

"Just remember, if your ever in trouble, just yelp for help" said Everest making the two of them laugh.

"I also wanted to tell you," began Chase as he started fidgeting with his paws trying to find the right words.

"Its okay you can tell me" said Everest taking notice of his nervousness.

"I-I like you Everest. A lot actually. Ive liked you for a while and I was wondering, do you maybe want to go on a date?" asked Chase waiting for the hard rejection.

The Husky visibly blushed a deep red as thoughts saying "OH MY GOSH" and "THIS HAS TO BE A DREAM" rushed through her head.

After a couple minutes of mentally freaking out, she replied

"I would love to"

"O-Okay cool" said Chase as a wave of relief washed over him. The same thoughts Everest had began to rush through his head.

"Is tomorrow night good?" Chase asked.

"Yeah tomorrows perfect. I'll see you then" said Everest bursting with excitement. With this in her mind she hopped in her rig and drove home.

Once she left, Chase walked back to the lookout, went into his room, and shut the door. After all, he had a date to plan.

What the pair didn't realize was the mysterious set of eyes slowly watching them from afar.

"You may have escaped me in the past, but this time, you're dead"
