SCHEME 2

Kinabukasan maaga akong gumising. I need to finish my devotion and review for recitation later in my major subject.  My professor in Theories of Personality is terrifying bukod doon napakababa niya magbigay ng grade. Mabuti na hindi siya bias dahil kung nagkataon hindi ko na alam gagawin ko. 

Hindi naman ako matalino e, hindi ako makakakuha ng medyo mataas na grade kung hindi ako magaaral. Ang hirap maging mediocre ha, 'yong alam mo lahat but you don't excel in any of them. Hindi ko nga alam paano ako nakasurvive last year e. I'm so blessed na kahit papaano walang singko sa grades ko.

Kabadong tumingin ako kay Prof. Esguerra na parang agilang naghahanap ng estudyanteng pwede niyang kainin ng buhay. 

Scary.

"Ms. Belen. Pretty, seems like you have a lot of time to groom yourself. Stand up."

Para akong binunutan ng tinik sa dibdib ng tinawag niya ang katabi ko. Muntik na 'yon ha! 

The reason why pumapasok akong mukhang basahan. Professor will think that if you have time to put your make up on and do your hairstyle then you have the time to study as well. Tips 'yan na sinabi sa akin ni ate Muna. Minsan nga pumapasok akong nakapajama since wala namang required na uniform.

"What has made you the person that you are today?"

Ang kaninang nanginginig na binti ng katabi ko ay ay unti-unting humupa. Confident siyang ngumiti sa professor ko na parang alam na alam niya ang sasabihin. Tumikhim pa siya at nagstraight ng tayo.

Taray!

"The amazing people I've met on my life's journey made me who I am today. It has been true throughout my life. A great exampl-"

"You're not in a beauty pageant, Ms.Belen. You are in my class and you are supposed to answer my question based on the subject I'm discussing."

"I'm answering your question, Sir."

Tumawa ang professor namin. A mocking laugh to be specific. " Ang hirap sa kabataan ngayon puro paganda ang inuuna. Nakapagayos ka pero hindi ka nakapagreview? Buti na lang maganda ka."

Mahinang tawanan ang bumalot sa buong classroom. Napahiyang umupo ang katabi ko.

"Hindi kita pinapaupo."

Luh? Grabe ka na 2020. Knowing my professor siguradong tatawag siya ng panibago. 

Kumalma ka heart. Ipinikit ko ang mata ko at pinagdikit ang magkabilang palad. Habang mahinang ibinubulong ang 'sana hindi ako.'

"Ms. Esconda."

'sana hindi ako.'

"Ms. Esconda? Ikaw."

L-Lord?

"Tapos ka na ba manalangin Ms. Esconda?"

Napahiyang napayuko ako. Tawanan sa buong room ang narinig. Ayt! Ginagawa mo ba sa buhay mo, Nasa?

"S-Sir?" mautal-utal na sabi ko.

"What has made you the person that you are today?" bahagya niya pa akong tinawanan.

I look like a trash now, mukha nga akong hindi naligo. Sinadya ko talagang hindi magsuklay, mamaya na lang pagtapos ng subject niya.

"W-well, ahm, according to Sigmund Freud human behavior is based on unconscious instincts and early childhood experiences, things that we are not normally aware of. He called his theory Psychoanalysis, the theory of personality and also his form of therapy that he invented. I think Freud theory of personality is a lot more realistic than other theories so I will based my answer on Freud theory, I can say that my experiences in life or my experiences when I am still a child eager to learn and adopt all the things that I have seen and heard is the reason why I became the person that I am today. Our environment and sorroundings have a big effect on our personality and on how we act in people around us."

Bahagyang itinaas ni Prof. Esgueraa ang sleeve ng suot niyang damit. 

Yes! Isa sa mga sign na nagustuhan niya ang sagot mo ay ang pagtaas niya ng sleeve ng suot niyang damit. I am just very observant. Meron siyang itinurong tao sa likod ko.

Nilingon ko ang lalaki na bahagyang nakataas ang kamay. Nanlalaki ang mga matang tinitigan ko siya. Tumingin siya sa akin at nginisian ako. Kailan ko pa siya naging kaklase o schoolmate man lamang? Unang beses ko nga lamang siya nakita kahapon. 

I looked directly in his black eyes. "Even if your faith is small as the mustard seed it can move mountain from another mountain. So how come my faith that is bigger than the mustard seed can't stop the bus from hitting me?"

"Unbelievable. There's so much shit in this world that faith can't solve."

Pagkatapos niyang sabihin iyon ay dumiretso siya sa counter para magbayad. Hinabol ko lamang siya ng tingin.

Kanina I felt scared when I looked in to his eyes. ow, I pity him. Bigla akong naawa sa kaniya for an unknown reason. Maybe because It's the first time I encounter people who talks like faith is the worst thing a person can have.

"Yes?"

"Other perspective say that we are purely biological. The biological theory view us a bundle of genes, brains and hormones and focuses on things like DNA or Deoxyribonucleic Acid, that main ingredient of chromosomes and genes that forms the code for all our genetic information. From a biological perspective we are not born blank slate. We're born with everything already in place. This idea of biological determinism that an individual personality is completely determined by biological factors. Segments within DNA consist of genes that make protein to determine our development."

Nakita ko ang lalong pagtaas ng sleeve ni Prof. Esguerra. Maging ang mahinang pagtili ni Ms. Belen na hanggang ngayon nakatayo pa rin. 

Luh? Yak.

"And? What are you trying to say Mr. Valencia?"

" I am saying that the biological theory make sense rather than Psychoanalysis that Ms. Esconda stated. And our personality is inborn, it's in our DNA. That is why our attitude and behavior is simlar to our parents. That's what made you the person that you are today."

Nang idismiss ni Prof. Esguerra ang klase naguusok ang ilong ko siyang tinignan. Natatawang tinignan niya ako.

"What? Next time imbes na magpray ka ng 'sana hindi ako' pagaralan mong mabuti ang subject. Faith is unrealiable, Ms. Esconda."

Bakit kaya lagi niya akong tinatalikuran pagkatapos niyang magsalita? Ayaw niya ba akong pagsalitain muna?
