Riley's POV:
Three weeks later, we sat at the dinner table in James's house. That prom night, I stayed with James at a hotel which he let Deborah know of and we spent the night cuddled up together, talking and kissing at some points.
I'm not too sure about how we're going to tell his parents that we're engaged and I'm not sure whether they'll be happy or mad because of how young we both still are. I've kept the ring on my finger since he placed it on a few weeks ago and I haven't taken it off, but nobody except for Laci has realised. That's quite different though because she said that James told her he was going to the day we both found out I was pregnant. That was quite a while back so I'm surprised that he's been thinking about asking me for so long.
One thing we both know, is that we are definitely not ready to tell them about the pregnancy because if we do, it would mean having to explain the whole situation of me miscarrying Leila and why we didn't tell them earlier. It's going to be a highly awkward conversation to talk about since they would most certainly ask when we did it and if we tell them, it would be majorly embarrassing and they would probably be disgusted by how it was in their own hose when they were both in and they didn't even know.
James was sat beside me right now, Rose was on the other side next to me and then Piper, Laci, and Jasper were sat opposite us. James's parents were sat at either end of the table. As I was sat next to James, he placed his hand on my knee and rubbed it softly, making me smile. He's been doing that quite a lot now to make sure I'm okay every so often, but I'm not complaining.
His mum walked in from the kitchen and then placed a ceramic dish of fried rice in the middle. She then bought another bowl of salad and a side plate with chicken drumsticks and breasts. I leaned forward to dish out Rose's food for her, making sure to only give her a tiny bit since she was only small. I then reached over to serve my own food, but James placed his hand on my thigh to stop me. I rolled my eyes playfully as he took the bowl of rice out of my hands and served me before he served himself, and then passing it over to his dad who was sat beside him.
"Thank you, Deborah, by the way," I say. Most of the time, she would be at work or at the hospital so James and I would have to serve the food ourselves. It's just polite to thank her and enjoy her food on the occasions she can cook for us."You're welcome, honey. It's my pleasure," she says. I smile and then thank James when he had served me, but then Piper raises an eyebrow at me from across the table. I follow her gaze down to my ring and then begin to fiddle with it. James looks from me to Laci to Piper, and then all of these exchanged looks lead to Jasper getting involved.
"Whoa! You're engaged!" he exclaims. Trust it to be him who lets out the bombshell. Both of James's parents drop their cutlery on their plates, Laci looks down, Jasper covers his mouth in realisation of what he had just said, Piper continued eating to try and hide the awkwardness whilst Rose just giggled.
I hesitantly put my fork back down and James does the same before taking his hand in mine. "This isn't how we wanted to tell you all..." he begins to say. "But I proposed to Riley on the night of prom..." he says. All their expressions stay the same but by looking at Deborah, I can't exactly tell what she was thinking. "I know, I probably should have told you before I went and did it. I told Laci and she knew-" he rambles, trying to explain why he hadn't spoken to them about doing so first.
"Okay look, I gave him the idea of proposing to her because they just look so in love with each other and so it would be stupid if he didn't. They're so committed to one another already, so why not take that step?" Laci interrupts, to try and back him up. Deborah looks down and shakes her head slightly but then I watched as a smile grew on James's dad's face. (A/n: I kind of forgot the name I gave James's dad so...)
"That's amazing!" he says, clapping a little. James must have been just as shocked as I was as he turns his head quickly and has an eyebrow raised. "I could sense that it was something you've been thinking about and I'm happy for you, both of you. You really do love each other and it shows," he concludes. I smile at him and then Piper nods.
"I agree," Deborah adds, letting out a sigh.
"Seriously?! Does no one in this house ship me with Riley?!" the only boy of twelve-years-old in the house exclaims.
"Nope, sorry bud," James says. I nudge him softly before resting my head on his shoulder and laughing slightly, whilst holding onto his arm.
"What about your baby?" Rose pipes up. I immediately sit up and pull out of James's grasp, my eyes widen just like everyone else's in the room.
"Rose, sweetie, what are you talking about?" Deborah questions as she looks at James and I in confusion.
"Riley and James told me they were going to have a baby," she continues. "And Piper told me it was a girl, but one of them died but they were supposed to have two babies, and only one survived. Riley gave birth to the other one a week ago," she says. I don't know how she found out all the details since the only person James and I told was Laci and then the rest of our friends. I never told Piper anything.
"Riley, James, is this true, are you pregnant?" she asks me, clasping her hands together as her elbows rested on the table. I look at James's father who wasn't as excited now and he seemed rather tense. Piper and Jasper continued to eat their food again to try and suppress the awkwardness whilst Rose looked at me in confusion, wondering why everyone seemed so confused. I look at Laci and she mouths the words 'sorry'. I sigh as I look up at James.
"Well?" she asks. "Are you two having a child?""Yes," James mutters. "She is..."
Oh no. This is going to be a very long and awkward conversation.
This is such a crappy ending, I know, but it's finished. I'm not too sure what I think of it, but there it is!! Hope you liked this -awfully long- story :))
