2: The Appointment

Sunday. I hate Sundays. It's the day when you're stressed because you have school tomorrow and you haven't finished that English assignment and it's already 8:00 and I have to be at my appointment by 9:30. My feet led me to my drawers where I threw on a nice pair of jeans and a Nirvana shirt, then threw off the Nirvana shirt and replaced it with a sweatshirt with mushrooms on the front. I ran to the bathroom and applied mascara, stabbing my eye in the process, but there was no time to complain. I had to get to that appointment.

"Dad, I'm going out," I yelled out as I put my shoes on. I knew all I would get back was a grumble, but it was just me and him, and I had to put up with him now. He is all I've got.

The train arrives, and I run into this cute brown-haired guy. "Oh, I'm so sorry," I say hurriedly. "Hey, it's okay," he reassured me."I'm Peter." He put his hand out to shake mine, and I grasped his hand firmly, maybe a little too firmly as he winced. Generous and cute, he's the whole package. "Ophelia" I shook his and I got a butterfly in my stomach. I've got to go! See you around, Peter! " I ran off, intending to get on that train so I wouldn't be late. My last foot landed on the train as the doors began to close.

I walked to a spot where I could stand and I waited, looking out for my stop as this was my first time on a train. It was crowded and kind of scary. I felt like all eyes were on me. Was there something on my face or was my sweatshirt dirty? People were coming and going as I reached my stop. I got off, reaching for my phone that wasn't there.

I felt my heart drop, and there was no air left in my lungs. My phone is gone, but it was there when I left home. I bumped into this cute guy. I bumped into him and I must have dropped my phone, but I was too busy gawking over him to notice. What a dumbass.

I walked out of the train station and caught a taxi the rest of the way to the Avengers Tower. The ride was smooth and full of me worrying about my phone and what my consequences would be for losing it.

I got out of the taxi and I entered the building. I talked to the receptionist and she got Jarvis to show me where Mr. Starks' office was. Of course, I had to hype myself up to knock on the door, and as my knuckles hit the door, there was a "come in!" from the other side of the white, clean-looking door.

The door opened to reveal not just Mr. Stark but 7 other Avengers who were all staring at me, and I looked like a total fool right now. "oh-Uh hi, I'm Ophelia Smith and I believe I have an appointment." I stuttered out while trying not to geek out because the Avengers were staring at me! I don't even care if it's because I look like a total dork. Well, maybe I do a little.

Kids, Didn't you get the email? It's been pushed back a few hours, "Mr. Stark said while rubbing his temples. He seemed unapproachable and tense. I'm scared that he will lash out at me, but I've got to keep strong.

"I had a mishap with my phone." I stammered as I examined everyone in the room.Wanda, Thor, Captain America, The Black Widow, Hawkeye, Dr. Bruce Banner, and, of course, Mr. Stark.

Well, you might as well stay Kid to get the feel of meetings because you're going to need to sit through these and pay attention, "he said while typing into his computer, and I nodded and wasted no time sitting down and listening to what he was saying.

They were talking about mission plans on how to take down a Hydra base and I wanted to not put my nose in their business, but they had one detail wrong that could make the whole mission turn to shit, so I did what I did. I put my nose into their business. "If I'm allowed to say, if you put Miss Romanoff where Thor is, that would work better because of their strengths." I stuttered out nervously. I could feel my heart beating rapidly as if it was going to escape, but instead of telling me to but out, he changed it and everyone was nodding at what I was saying.

"Good work kid, That was a test to see if you would notice. You passed and you listened quietly and when it was needed you spoke up, "Mr Stark said proudly, but I doubt there was a test. I just went along with it to not hurt his ego.

The rest of it went smoothly. I put my input in a couple more times and I was treated as if I had a valid point, not just that I was invalid because of my age. I like this. I like being valid and not being ignored and treated like a kid. Everyone here is nice, and I think I'll fit in pretty well here. Moving wasn't all that bad. It was a fresh start to my new life. Hopefully with new friends and hopefully a nice apartment when I do it all up. It's going to be fine.
