annabelle's pov-

---monday 20 february---

my mom and i both walked out of the airport terminal.as soon as the automated doors opened i felt a burst of cold air against my face. the chilly night wind whispered against my ears, as i stood outside waiting for a taxi with my mum. i took out my hair from the messy ponytail that it previously was captured in and let the tangled mess cover my neck to stop the goosebumps, and chills that went down my spine.

hands interlocked with my mother, we made our way to a taxi. the taxi driver grumbled inaudible words while loading our suitcases. he clearly was not too happy for whatever reason. not that i gave a shit.at that moment i was looking around mindlessly. the atmosphere was cozy, but slowly tension rose in the air as we piled into the taxi.

"address." the taxi driver demanded.

while raising an eyebrow and with disapproval my mother gave the rude man the address of the hotel we were booked to be, courtesy of the producers. my mom was the head make up artist after all.

at 4:08 am we had arrived at the hotel.to say it was luxurious was the understatement of the year it looked years old but the structure was still beautiful. a loud gasp escaped my lips as a polite man in a fancy tuxedo opened the door at the taxi for me like i was some celebrity. stumbling out i thanked the man as he smiled at me sweetly.

how do they smile like that?

this late?

our luggage was taken away by some hotel workers who had the same sickeningly sweet smile.

are they programmed to do that?

i strolled into the hotel and my eyes widened in shock, there was a grand chandelier, the weeknd said blinding lights and they took that seriously. soft music played in the background. the hotel was surprisingly quiet except for some low laughs and faint voices.

"hello, welcome." women in a crisp black dress greeted me, with the same smile.

yup definitely programmed robots.

compared to me she looked like she was worthy of the red carpet i was standing on.my hair was in knots i immediately regretted my earlier choice to let down my hair, my red hoodie that was reaching my mid-thigh had creases and my black leggings had stains from all the things i had spilled on earlier in the plane. clutching my rucksack i hurried off to catch up with my mother who was already talking to a hotel receptionist most likely about our rooms.

"okay so your rooms are ready, the dinner service unfortunately stopped but the room service is still available so you can use that. enjoy your stay."i heard the last bit of the conversation, as my mum was handed 2 key cards.

looking at my mom she placed a keycard into my hands.

"that's for your own room." she said with a shit-eating grin.

i was confused as to why she was so excited i had my own room. i had my room at other hotels before. she yanked on my arm and we went up to our rooms which were on the 13th floor of the 20 story building.as we arrived in front of the room we saw housekeepers leave the rooms we were going to stay in. upon seeing us they smiled at us with the creepy-sweet smile.

hm probably the hotel's signature smile.

awkwardly we shuffled into our room. stepping into the room another loud gasp escaped my lips. again calling it luxurious was the understatement of the year. the room was large. with 2 doors in them. walking in slowly i pushed one open and saw a bathroom as big as my bed room back at home.it had a big tub in the middle, along with a vanity that was almost as big as one of the walls. i left the bathroom to explore the rest of my room when i saw my mom with a glint in her beautiful brown eyes. my jaw dropped as i saw the rest of room.

"so how do you like the place?" she said resting on my king sized bed flipping through some magazine.

"amazing."i breath.

"olivia would have loved it."

"she would have." my mom's eyes darkened as we felt a wave of sadness wash over us.

"its so luxurious." she added trying to lift the mood.

i nodded as my gaze studied the room.

the complementary tea bags.

the lush bed.

the center table.

the mini fridge.

the other vanity.

the lamps.

the weird looking alarm clock.

the television.

the kettle.

everything was cool to touch. new and pristine. removing my shoes i stepped bare foot on the soft carpet that was spread.

the other door in my room was left ajar and i looked into it i saw and almost identical room.

mum's...

i could see her without leaving my room.

the curtain in her room were drawn closed but mine were wide open. the windows were slid open and the cold air and light rain re-entered my room. the balcony was fairly sized. i wanted to step into it but i knew i would freeze. i could hear the noise from the streets. the entire time i felt comfort. like i have been living here my whole life. i smiled. i faintly heard the hotel music from outside my door.

"what do you wanna eat?" my mum asked holding the menu for room service.

"something warm. you can choose i'm taking a shower." i said.

i quickly opened my suitcase, grabbing the products from my body and hair and picking a light shirt, shorts and a pair of fuzzy socks.

high class lounge wear if i don't say so myself.

taking a few strides, i stepped into the bathroom locking it shut i turned on the hot water letting the mirrors and glass doors to the shower fog. stripping down i trudged into the shower. i felt more tired by the second. i let the hot water drown me as i slowly rubbed apple soap on my hair and body. i could feel the fatigue seep into me. i went slightly limp while rinsing clean. i stepped out and got dressed as quick as possible. slipping out of the bathroom.

slowly i rubbed my eyes. i saw my mother sitting on the floor beside the small center table. on the table the was two bowls of what seemed like vegetable soup. i quickly sat down beside her and drank the soup. normally we would have deep conversations but i could see the dark circles under her eyes and decided against it.

"tomorrow we have the meeting with two of the producers for your contract at 3.30pm.the time before and after i'll give to you to explore whatever you want." my mom said between sips breaking the silence.

happy with the idea of exploring the village myself. i nodded my head softly.

content.

i smiled at all the thoughts for the next day.my mother finished her soup leaving the bowl outside the door she went into her room mumbling a good night. i was also finished with my soup which had filled me up quite well so leaving the bowl out the door like my mom did, i brushed my teeth and slipped into the duvets of my bed. it was so big and it melted at my touch, it almost swallowed me whole.as soon at my head hit the pillows i shut my eyes and fell into a deep dreamless sleep.
