After we had all finished setting up our arrangements, dusk was already upon us. Crickets had risen to chirp soundly, hidden in the trees. The sun was drifting down on the horizon, edging ever so closer to the dip just before it would fade into darkness. My favorite time of day is this Twilight faze.

It represents the thin boundary between night and day. Dusk and dawn. Morning and evening. I adore it.

"Where's the lighter?" Taylor asked, scratching his head as he stared into the empty campfire ditch.

"Somewhere in my bag." Miguel piped up.

"We can use these matches." Vinny suggested, holding up the small box.

Taylor grinned and snatched them from his grip, tugging the cardboard drawer open to pull one out. He scratched it briskly on its side, lighting a small flame on the top of the stick which quickly died out as soon as it had appeared.

"Come on!" Taylor frowned, trying another one, to no avail.

While he was fretting over the matches, Darren knew down carefully by the ditch, tugging an abnormally large knife from his bag as he slide a flint knob out from the back of its handle. He replaced the vibrantly colored leaves that Taylor had put into the pile of wood with thin pine needles and dead grass.

He then held the knife and the flint knob out over the flammable substances and dragged the blade over the flint stick, raining a shower of sparks over the pine needles as they were quickly set aflame and spread across the gasoline on the logs.

The fire leapt from the burning confinement's of the wood to take shape in that of a large bonfire. It erupted burning hot embers into the darkening sky which glided down to the dirt below them.

Taylor grumbled. "I thought I was supposed to make the fire."

Darren shrugged with a simple smile. "Thought you could use some help."

"How's you know how to do that?" Miguel asked curiously.

"Eagle Scouts- 5th grade." He grinned, looking up to him.

We had set up some camp chairs around the fire by then, and I had nestled up into a big black one. I had my knees hugged against my chest while my entire body was shivering. I wasn't going to lie, I was cold- even if it was only dawning on 8 o'clock.

I soon felt something slide over the back of my exposed neck, causing me to jump, rotating quickly to look behind me.

"Geez- Calm down. It's just me." Lance grinned. "Thought you could use a blanket." He held the fuzzy white fabric up.

"Oh.. Sorry.. Thanks.." I took the blanket from him and wrapped it around myself, then returned my attention to the simmering flames.

Lance was quiet for a moment before he stepped to my left and slid his chair closer to mine, then took a seat.

"Who wants marshmallows!" Julianna smirked as she held up a bag of the chewy treats.

"Me!" Rylee immediately cried.

If there was one thing those two had in common, it was their love of food.
