Platform 9 3/4 was swarming with students dragging along luggage, greeting their friends, and saying goodbye to their parents. Leo Malfoy had left his parents as soon as they had begun fussing over his younger brother Draco.
He knew they hadn't noticed he'd left, not that they would be particularly bothered by his disappearance. It just meant his father didn't get another opportunity to scold him for his behavior and warn him of the consequences if he acted out further during his last year.
Leo had heard it all before, his father loved to remind him that he was a disappointment and a disgrace on their family name. He'd reinforced this fact the previous night with a little help from his cane, leaving Leo with some fresh bruises on his face.
He made his way onto the train, moving along the compartments, keeping an eye out for his friends, glaring at everybody else he passed. He briefly stopped when he saw the familiar redheads of the Weasley twins, giving them a small nod.
He wouldn't say he was friends with the two redheads but he had to admit he found them amusing and wasn't opposed to helping them with any pranks they wanted to pull on his fellow Slytherins.
They were also extremely useful acquaintances to have when he needed to use the map he'd stolen from Filchs' office and had handed over to them in return for them relentlessly pranking Marcus Flint for a month straight.
They also had two extremely good-looking older brothers by the names of Bill and Charlie, who Leo wouldn't be opposed to getting acquainted with, especially Charlie, a former quidditch captain now dragon trainer in Romania.
He eventually found his friends Oliver Wood and Jo Thomas in one of the furthest compartments and they seemed to be in a heated discussion with one of Jos' friends, Maria Bones, who had joined them.
He also took notice of the figure sitting in the corner of the carriage, hidden under his cloak as he appeared to be sleeping, but Leo had a feeling the man was pretending.
Oliver soon spotted him and instantly waved him over. "Leo! In here!" He called out. Leo grimaced at his friends shouting but opened the compartment door, leaning in the doorway.
"I didn't think that accent could get any more grating over the summer, but clearly I was wrong," Leo replied shortly, but smirked, there being no real malice behind his words.
"Oh lighten up you miserable git, those bruises look horrid," Oliver responded as he looked concerned, checking Leo over. He just shrugged in response, letting out a small scoff.
"I'm used to it, father gets a bit too excitable given the chance to use his cane on me, but we're going to talk about something else unless you want a matching set," he threatened lightly, causing Oliver to drop the subject almost instantly with a sigh. Leo knew he'd bring it up later but he would deal with it then.
"Anyway let's find somewhere else, I need a fucking smoke and I don't want our new professor confiscating my fags," he almost ordered, nodding his head towards the figure in the corner.
Jo nodded in agreement. "Same, let's go, just you wait until you hear what Dean and that Irish friend of his got up to over the summer," she huffed, standing up and following Leo out of the compartment, the rest of their small group following suit.
They found another empty compartment and Leo got comfortable by the window, opposite Jo as he handed her a cigarette, both of them lighting them and letting out small puffs of smoke. Oliver sat next to Leo, so he swung his feet up and rested them in Olivers' lap, who didn't protest and just rested his hands on his ankles gently.
