[ Third Person ]
Kayla yawned loudly, shuffling down the hall. Loud bangs came from the kitchen and Kayla picked up speed slightly. She put her hand on the wall of the doorway and peeked into the white room.
Her father sat in his wheelchair digging through the cabinets, hunched over slightly since it was so close to the floor.
" g' mornin', princess~!" he raised his head to look back at his daughter, who bore an amused expression.
" hello there~ need help?" she asked sarcastically. Her father rolled his eyes and chuckled.
His daughter walked to his side and grabbed a nearby bowl. He smiled to himself while taking in her features.
He and his daughter looked almost completely alike if it wasn't for the difference in age and gender. They also possessed the same personalities, making them, " two peas in a pod."
She set the bowl on the opposite counter and tied her brown hair into a loose ponytail, letting her bangs fall around her face. Her ponytail was a light brown with swirl of natural blond streaks. She reached to the top of the refrigerator and pulled down a box of cereal.
" We gonna watch that marathon today, daddy?" Kayla asked, gazed focused on the cereal flowing into the plastic bowl.
"Wouldn't miss it for the world~" her father chimed, wheeling into the living room. She followed shortly after with a full bowl in hand and a glass of milk in the other. Kayla snuggled into the corner of the couch, legs propped up on the foot rest.
" The news say anything?" Kayla asked, mouth full of milk-soaked cereal.
" That is nasty, Kayla..." Her father glared at her from the corners of his eyes. She scoffed softly and smiled, swallowing the last of her cereal.
~ eltingville high is still closed due to the recent hurricane, leaving it flooded and permanently damaged. students attending will study at the nearby campus, until renovations are complete.~
The news reporter nodded to the camera before it switched back to the anchorman's screen.
The floorboards creaked as Kayla made her way to the kitchen and back, this time returning with nothing in hand. She plopped back in her original spot and wiggled around, planning on developing a comfortable butt groove.
-DING-
The sound of the doorbell cut through the peace of morning in the Rivera residence. Kayla flinched at the volume of the doorbell and rose to answer the door.
When she opened the door, a blast of cold air struck her body. Her loose, " come to the dark side, we have cookies!" shirt and gray basketball short fluttered violently and she closed her eyes to avoid any dust in her eyes.
"hallo? Anyone there?" she called out to nothing or no one in particular.
As expected, no one answered her, just distant sounds of blue jays and swaying leaves.
"mew~" her head snapped to look down at the small welcome mat at a speed that that worried her of she would catch whiplash.
A beaten box from, " UPS" sat at her feet. The frayed walls of the box bent out slightly.
