"We have a problem.." She said adjusting her glasses. "Looking at the records of Alex's physical has me worried." She huffed as she flipped through paper upon paper. "She went to her doctor a week prior her tryouts for swimming. Looking back, I hadn't noticed her condition worsening." Cassandra snatched the paper out of her hand and covered her mouth in shock. "What?" Johnny said standing behind her reading the paper. "Para-plegia? The hell is that?" Johnny asked looking at Cassandra from her shoulder. "A muscle dysfunction." Cassie mentions. "You see, uh mister.." "Vincent." "Vincent? Ok, Mr. Vincent. When Alex was about 7 years of age, her family got into an accident. Very bad. Their mother died and Alex was badly injured." Ms. Windsor explained. "I told her not to put her feet up like that.." Cassandra whispered to herself before breaking into tears.
"When she was hit, it was a delayed reaction. The doctors said it'd be over after therapy when she was 13. But they lied to make a quick pound out of my father. I thought it was over.." Cassandra sat down and covered her face. "If it keeps going on this way, she'll be paralyzed from the waist down." She uttered. "I can't have that. I just can't. SHE can't. She won't." Cassandra yelled. "This is why you and her have trust issues, isn't it?" Johnny mentioned. "Oh no, Alex does not know about the condition." Ms. Windsor added. "Father told us not to tell her until he was ready. She remembers the treatments but she thought it was all for nothing." Cassandra said. "I've got to tell her." She said.
After swim tryouts, Alex was pulled to side to be told. She had been accepted. She ran over to Pete and Jimmy and tackled Pete out of excitement. "I'm in!" She squealed. "I never doubted for a second." Pete said. Alex hugged him once more and looked around. She noticed Ted had been watching from the top row of the bleachers and was making his way down to her. She backed off of Pete abruptly as he approached her. "Back for more?" Alex sneered. "Alex, Just listen to me." "Oh, there's no time for that. You had your chance back in the dorm two weeks ago and didn't even have the balls to face me." Alex swerved into the opposite direction. "I broke up with Mandy last week." Ted stood back where she had originally been. "Fine by me. Hope you're happy or whatever." Alex mumbled as she shoved her clothes into her bag. "I'm not going to be, unless I get back what I've been meaning to get back." Ted grabbed her hands but Alex still refused to look at him. He sighed as his shoulders drop. "I'm ready whenever you are Alex. Just call." He said before kissing her cheek and walking towards the exit. "You taste like chlorine." He chuckled while wiping his mouth.
Alex slung her bag over her shoulder and ordered Pete and Jimmy to follow. "So the jockstrap finally wants to kiss up, huh? Look at you Alex, you're in demand." Jimmy nudged Alex making her smile. "Shut it, Hopkins. Everyone just wants the recognition and I'm not just here to hand it out." She stated. "I hate to bring it up, but I gotta ask. Are you going to take him back?" Pete asked. "I dunno. I mean I did miss him. Keyword 'did'." She rambled. "But lately, I've been hanging with Bif. He seems kind." Alex said. "Bif? Why him?" Jimmy wore a disgusted look on his face. "Just cause. Was going to use him to get back at Ted but he's too good of a guy. Besides, he's one of the few preps who actually acknowledges my existence." She added. "Not gonna lie to ya Alex, sounds like you're seeking validation." Jimmy blurted out. "But aren't you with Peanut?" Pete gave another confused look. "Sigh, noo but just keep acting as if he is. Johnny says it's for my safety. I can't defy the rules so just go with it." She whispered while pulling them both in. "One thing is for sure, he is dedicated to his part." Pete mentioned. "If I were him, I would be too." Jimmy commented.
Alex pushed him to the side. "Kidding, I'm kidding!" He chuckled. "But you'd better decide quick the winter formal is in three days." Pete said. "Three days!? Shit!" Alex gripped the straps of her bag and hurriedly ran through the bitter, winter air. To her surprise, Bif was waiting at the back door. "Hey." She huffed. "Hi." He said looking at her questionable outfit. "Were you..?" He began his questioning and pointed at her. "Swim tryouts. I just remembered that we needed to talk about what we were wearing." Alex panted. "Let's head up before Ms. Peabody sees us. Don't think she'd like my sense of fashion." Alex joked. The two snuck upstairs and sat across Cassandra's bed. "What do you have in mind?" Alex said pulling out her laptop. "I thought I was supposed to be the one asking the questions?" Bif flashed a blinding grin. " Hm, what's your favorite color?" He asked. "Burgundy." She answered. "Burgundy and Black." She added.
