Previously on "rooftop : Childhood Friend"
I just sat there, holding my knee, in the middle of the road.
But then I heard something... Someone calling my name. I looked to my side and saw Dahyun, she was pointing somewhere. I looked at my front and saw a truck. Coming closer and closer...
"AHHHH!"
Now...
"AHHHH!"
Suddenly, I felt something push me. Little did I know, that was a someone...
That person just saved my life. I looked to see who it was and...
EUNWOO?!
"EUNWOO!" Dahyun cried. The truck was coming.
Dahyun dashed and grabbed Eunwoo's wrist, pulling hime to the side of the road.
They embraced each other with their touch. Once again, I was...
... lonely.
I mean, I almost got hit too...
1 week later...
Dahyun and I have been ignoring each other ever since we somehow broke up indirectly. She never sat with us at lunch, she never joined our team in PE, she basically walked out on us.
I mean, it's kinda my fault too. I ignored her for a whole week, denied her existence and pretended to be "deaf" to ignore her voice.
The girl who once gave everyone happiness went back to her old self.
Depressed, alone, and numb.
"Sana? Ms.Minatozaki, may I please have your attention." I forgot, I'm in history class right now.
I hummed and sat straight to look at the board.
"As you all know, you had a task to make an essay on the Korean War. And by far, all of you disappointed me. Except for one student..."
It's probably Dahyun, she tops in History and basically any other subject.
"Minatozaki Sana."
My eyes went wide and I turned to Dahyun who sat beside me. She looked up at Ms.Lee with an unreadable expression.
"Ah, Kim Dahyun. You disappointed me the most." Ms.Lee announced.
"You used to excel in this class, Kim. Whta happened?! You should ask Sana to tutor you."
Oh no... Please don't snitch on me, Dahyun...
"This needs to be brought up with your parents. What do you have to say for yourself?"
Dahyun stood up from her seat and faced down to look at her desk.
"I should've worked harder. In this case, much more. I should learn from Ms.Minatozaki." Her voice trembled.
"Meet me after class, I'm inviting your parents for a meeting."
I wanted to speak up, but I couldn't. I was too much of a coward...
After a few minutes, the bell finally rang. Dahyun stayed in her seat while I finished packing my bag.
I walked out of the "hell hole", also known as "the classroom".
But I couldn't help but eavesdrop on Dahyun and Ms.Lee.
"What happened to you, Dahyun? You used to be at the top in my class. Now Sana did a better essay than you. You let yourself go, Kim." Ms.Lee started. Dahyun was in front of her desk, head facing down.
"I'm gonna contact your parents.."
"You can't." Dahyun suddenly spoke.
"Excuse me?" Ms.Lee asked in disbelief.
"I said, you can't call them." Dahyun repeated.
"And why can't I, you brat?!" Ms.Lee stood from her desk.
"BECAUSE THEY DON'T EXIST!" Dahyun yelled in Ms.Lee's face.
Is that why she was alone at her house? Was Eunwoo her only somewhat family?
Dahyun ran out and went to the nearest bathroom. I followed her discreetly to avoid raising suspicion.
She went inside one of the stalls and I went in the one next to it.
Beeping sounds could be heard as she dialed a number on her iPhone.
"Please pick up..." Dahyun mumbled.
"Yeoboseyo?" The voice on the other line called.
"E-Eunwoo-ah... Let's go home early..." Dahyun pleaded as her voice cracked.
She stepped out of the stall with the phone still in her hand.
"You're in the basketball court, right? Please wait for me..."
And with that, she left...
I opened the door of the stall I was in and watched as Dahyun walked away.
Should I follow her? I probably shouldn't. But my heart is telling me to do it!
I followed her around in a discreet manner, I never left her side. It was as if I were a tail.
Suddenly, she stopped at the door that leads to the basketball court.
She sighed deeply, "Why are you ignoring me, Sana-yah..? I was probably just another rebound..."
No... Dahyun you aren't a rebound! I love you..!
Suddenly the door opened, revealing Eunwoo. Sweat dripping off of his forehead, wearing a basketball uniform, with a ball in his hand.
He stopped on his tracks when he saw Dahyun in front of him, eyes puffy and red...
"DAHYUN-AH! W-What happened..?!"
Dahyun wrapped his arms around Eunwoo's torso and hugged him tightly.
Ugh! That should be me, not Eunwoo...
"Wait at the gate, Dahyun. I'll follow rigtt he after I change. Then I'll take you home..." Eunwoo ordered with a soft tone.
Dahyun obliged and walked away, keeping a tight grip on the sling of her backpack.
