Grace's pov;
"Grace if you are not up yet I'm going to lose my shit."
I wake up to my best friend screaming from the room over. I slowly open my heavy eyes, jesus it feels like I was asleep for five minutes. I roll over and reach under my pillow to grab my phone. My eyes shut fast due to the brightness of my phone screen. Shit, it's 10 o'clock. I overslept.
"Grace?"
"I'm awake, I'm awake idiot don't worry." I scream back, irritation taking over the tone of my voice.
Yawning, I sit up shooting my arms up to the ceiling as I stretch out my back. I look across my room, catching a glance of my suitcase drawn open upon the floor. Fuck! I forgot to finish packing last night. I jump out of my bed and run over to my suitcase hoping I didn't actually forget to pack. Unfortunately, my wishing didn't work because the only thing I had packed was a couple of shirts, jeans and some stray socks. I run back over to my dresser grabbing any piece of clothing I think I would need and throwing it into my suitcase. There, that will have to do, I guess. Once I zipped up my suitcase I went to my bathroom catching a glimpse of myself in my mirror. Damn, not too bad today. I slip into some sweatpants and a comfy t-shirt that I had laid out for myself the night before. Then I brush my teeth and my hair, grab all of my toiletries and throw them into a bag hoping not to forget anything important.
"Hey," Josie says as she bursts through my bedroom door. "Why aren't you ready yet? We have to leave to go to the airport in 45 minutes."
"I know, I know I slept through my alarms." I say as I rummage around my room, looking for anything with importance that I could throw into my carry on. She made her way over to me giving me a good morning hug from behind.
"G, I told you to pack last night. Maybe if you had listened to me this wouldn't be happening right now." she said crossing her arms and raising her eyebrows at me.
Okay, now she was really getting on my nerves.
"I tried to okay Jo, I guess I just fell asleep. Stop being such a mom anyways." I responded.
"I'm just gonna completely disregard what you just said and go downstairs to make myself a bagel." She said quickly as she turned on her heels and made her way out of the room.
Shoes, I forgot shoes. I grabbed a few sneakers, a pair of boots and some more dressy shoes just in case. I looked around at my half empty room. My parents and I had made the decision to have all of my furniture and big things brought over to London before I left so it would be easier for me to travel. That way when I got there everything would be waiting for me. I sighed. I'm gonna miss this room, but I will be back in 6 months for Christmas break so I wont be gone for too long.
I was quickly interrupted from my thoughts by my loud ass best friend.
"Oh and by the way, if you're not ready in thirty minutes then I am going to leave without you." she screamed from halfway down the stairs.
Man that girl gets me so mad sometimes.
20 minutes later.
After rechecking my room ten more times to see if I missed anything, I made my way downstairs.
"A little help." I said as Josie was eyeing me clearly struggling to get down the stairs with all my things.
"Here" she mentioned, walking over and grabbing my phone out of my hand.
"Wow, thanks a lot ass hat" I said while rolling my eyes.
"Relax I'm just kidding, gimme that" she said as she took my big suitcase from my arms.
"Thanks." I responded clearly winded.
I made my way into the kitchen getting greeted by my mom who showered me with kisses.
"Good morning to you too." I say squirming away from her grasp and grabbing half of a bagel left on the kitchen counter. Quickly shoving it in my mouth I walk over to the fridge and pour a cup of orange juice.
"I can't believe you are leaving, the both of you." Mom said, looking over at us teary eyed.
Ever since I can remember Josie has been a big part of my family's life. Both of her parents were always out of town on business trips so she was constantly staying at my house. My mom basically cared for her as her own, so for the both of us to leave is a big deal for her. At least she has my dad at home with her though.
I take another bite of my bagel and glance over at the clock, 10:45, we have to go.
"Okay mom save the sappy tears for later when we actually have to leave each other. Right now we need to pack up the car and leave otherwise we will be late."
My mom, Josie and I carried out all of our bags to the car struggling to fit them all in. Once everything was fully put away I took a second to breathe. Taking one last look at my childhood house I remembered all of the good memories and reminded myself that I would be back home before I knew it. I hopped into the passenger seat and my mom started to drive to the airport.
Fast forward 1 hour, at the airport, boarding the plane.
Once Josie, Mom and I got onto the plane we got into our seats, which were thankfully, all right next to each other. I got the window seat which I had to fight for with Josie for the whole car ride here, but it was worth it. Josie was next to me in the middle seat, and mom was in the aisle seat. Once we got all comfy the flight attendant announced that we would be taking off in a few minutes. Oh, did I forget to mention that I have a huge fear of taking off in airplanes. I'm not sure why but it makes my anxiety skyrocket through the roof. I took out my airpods and put on some music on my phone to distract myself. The first song to auto play was Sofia by Clairo, which calmed me down a bit. I quietly hummed to the song until I felt the plane lurch forward. I closed the window so I couldn't see the plane lifting up into the sky. Josie grabbed my hand and flashed a smile sensing my anxiety.
Once the plane made it all the way up and was steady in the air, I opened my window and looked at the clouds. Wow. I hate the takeoff but it is all worth it for the view that I will be able to admire for the next 6 and a half hours. I reach into my carry on bag and take out my laptop, connect my airpods and put on one of my favorite movies ever, Little Woman. I live in Massachusetts where the movie was filmed, so it's super cool to see that the same places i have stood, Timmy has stood too. I look over and hand Josie one of my airpods after noticing her peering at my computer screen. After a while my eyes started to get heavy and I decided to take a quick nap to pass the time. I laid my head to the side on Josie's shoulder and drifted off to sleep with good intentions for our upcoming adventure.
