Daryl didn't call. Not for three days at least. But Zak didn't blame him. He has his own life. And it's not his job to make sure Zak was okay.

Even if he needed him now more than ever.

Zak glanced at the mirror to the left of him and saw just how tired and frightening he looked. There were bruises and cuts on his face, hands and thighs even.

He decided that even if he looked like shit, no one would really notice if he covered himself up.

Since school was in 15 minutes Zak had to start getting ready. He decided to wear a black long sleeved shirt, a red hoodie, (his teal hoodie was dirty so it was all he had) and some black jeans he got a couple months ago that he'd never worn.

He didn't do anything about his face however since he can just make up an excuse and there aren't many bruises there.

By the time Zak got to school, Daryl was already at his locker. Daryl and Zak's lockers were right next to each other which was lucky for both of them. Seeing as, they were both hoping to run into one another.

Zak reached his locker and for the first time in days, he had a genuine smile on his face.

"Zak!! Oh my goodness hi!! We haven't talked in a while I'm sorry" Daryl said, pulling Zak in for a hug.

Zak winced ever so slightly at the sudden contact but it was enough for the other boy to notice.

"Are you okay?" Daryl asked, reaching for Zak's side instinctively.

"Are your hips hurting?" The older boy asked, only to be shut down immediately.

"It's nothing." Zak said quickly, forcing a smile on his face.

Darryl didn't get the chance to question this however, because Zak started to talk again.

"But uh... I was wondering if after school we could hang out?" Zak asked cautiously.

Daryl smiled brightly and nodded, looking happier than before. Almost forgetting his suspicion.

"hang out at your house?-" before the older boy could finish, Zak cut him off.

"No! Nope. Not my house..."

Zak thought for a minute before continuing.

"let's go out. And get coffee or something. Or go to the park" the small boy said, trying not to act suspicious. He was failing miserably but Darryl was too flustered to tell.

He was blushing and smiling. This was all out of no where.

"I-it's not weird or anything... just. I dunno" Zak said. He realized what he said sounded like an idea for a date. And he didn't wanna go on a date with Darryl.

He... didn't want to... right?

To be fair, Zak's face was heating up as well and his heart was beating faster than it usually does. But... it's surely nothing.

They're just friends.

Friends can spend time together.

And think about how amazing the other looks. And how his eyes sparkle when he talks about dogs or books he loved reading.
