'Happy Birthday to You'
-Jay

The sky turned a gloomy grey. Kai felt a small drop of rain hit his nose. Sensei Wu ended Kai's training just as Jay walked on deck holding a red rose. A glint of pain flitted in Sensei Wu's eyes.

"Are you taking my sister out on another date?" Kai asked, eyeing him up and down. He wore a simple yellow shirt over a blue jacket with black jeans.

"Not today. I'm going to go see (y/n)," Jay answered plucking a thorn off of the rose. "It's her birthday today. I promised her I would go see her today."

Kai narrowed his eyes. "Who's (y/n)?" Sensei Wu used his bow-staff to 'accidentally' hit Kai upside the head. "Ow! What did I say!"

Jay looked at Wu, "Can I be excused from today's training, Sensei? I have to see (y/n) today."

Wu nodded, "Of course. Tell her I wish her a happy birthday."

Jay nodded, "Thank you, Sensei."

Kai watched Jay jump off Destiny's Bounty landing on a close-by building. He ran far off to the point he turned to a speck and disappeared. "Sensei, who's (y/n)?"

Sensei Wu sighed, turning his back to walk inside the bounty. "It's a long, tragic story."

"What happened?" Kai stepped forward interested in the sudden mystery of (y/n).

"I'm surprised no one has told you, yet. Well, I might as well," he sighed turning his attention to Kai. "(Y/n) was Jay's best friend since he was seven."

"Was?"

"Please, no interruptions. Where was I? Ah, yes . . . Jay had met (y/n) after one of his earlier inventions had blown up. He was sent to the hospital where he had met (y/n) for the first time. She was there because of a surgery she recently had on her heart. The two of them kept each other company. For the next few days, they quickly become very close friends. Then, one day (y/n) had become very ill . . . and . . . well . . ." Wu trailed off feeling his own heart tremble at the thought. He had never met (y/n) but when Jay had first talked of her, he knew she was a smart, kind, beautiful girl. As Jay described her, 'She's unforgettable.'

"What happened?" Kai asked, anxious to know what happened. Though, he already had an idea.

Sensei Wu looked up at the gloomy sky. "Her heart gave out."

Kai froze. "She died?" Wu nodded. "But Jay's going to visit her." He nodded again. "But that doesn't make any sense. He's going to wish her a happy birthday.." Wu's eyes clouded.

"That's why he is going to see her."

Jay sat on an uncomfortable plastic chair trying to find the courage to start up a conversation with the ill girl in bed.

"I'll miss you, Jay." she suddenly spoke making him glance up.

"Don't say that. You'll be fine. Trust me, (y/n)." Jay's voice cracked. He knew there was no use but he hoped she'll be alright. Maybe if he hoped hard enough, she might not go away just like in the movies.

(Y/n) smiled sweetly at him making his heart throb. She knew he wanted her to live, she was his best friend of course, but (y/n) knew her time won't be long. She didn't want Jay to put his hopes up. She took a deep breath hurting her chest, "You're my best friend, Jay. And I really like you."- Tears filled the corners of her eyes -"So after I'm gone, I want you to promise me you'll move on. Promise me, okay?"

Jay opened his mouth. His throat felt dry. He couldn't speak. (Y/n) had left him speechless again. Being brave, he shook his no. She furrowed her brow, "Please, Jay. I'm not going to make it. We both know that. Please, just promise me you'll forget me."

"But I don't want to!" He yelled, finding his voice. "I can't just forget you! You're my best friend! How can I forget someone so close to me, huh? Like you never existed! It's impossible! I swear, I will never forget you. (Y/n), I can never, ever forget you and..and," Jay panted, eyes stinging with tears. He clenched his hands staring at the ground. "I don't want to ever forget..."

(Y/n) swallowed down the lump in her throat. "Then don't," she whispered. "Just move on.. You can still remember me and all the times we had. Just don't be sad... Jay, I don't want you to be sad because of me. I want you to be happy... Promise me?"

Jay held his breath nodding his head. He looked at (y/n)'s (e/c) eyes, "I promise, every year, I will put a flower on your grave and sing you a happy birthday. No matter what, until the day I die."

"I'll miss you." (Y/n) smiled her sweet smile.

"I'll miss you, too."

At exactly midnight that day, that sweet little girl had passed just like the doctors had said. She died peacefully in her sleep. Her heart gave out while Jay's ached with pain. He kept the promise he made to her. He moved on, but he never forgot a single moment he had spent with her.

"Happy birthday to you," Jay sung, setting down the red rose. "Happy birthday to you"- a cold wind blew -"Happy birthday dear (y/n)"- tears rolled down his face, but he kept a smile -"Happy birthday to you . . ."
