Despite her determination to be invisible, Ginny was still very much in plain sight to be spotted by Filch at 2:00 am, wandering the corridors.
"Luna, did it work?" She whispered to the tall figure beside her.
"Well, that depends on what you are trying to hide from. Glawackuses are blind, so to them you would be invisible."
Ginny didn't have to see her face to know that Luna was wearing a cheeky grin.
The red-haired girl pushed her shoulder lightly and let out an exasperated sigh.
"I don't understand your sudden desire to be invisible Ginny, we've snuck out plenty of times and have never been caught."
Ginny clucked her tongue a few times patronizingly, looked delighted. "Wrong! Third year, Snape was on night patrol, we spent a week in detention cleaning Moaning Myrtle's bathroom." They rounded a corner, Luna in the lead to check for Filch before they walked on.
"Oh, I didn't forget, just didn't want to bring up bad memories. I know what that bathroom must mean to you." Luna's expression was serious as she said this, but Ginny just smiled.
"I'll sic my basilisk on you if you're not careful." Ginny responded with a snort.
"Once again, why is it so important for you to disappear?"
Ginny considered this for a moment before realizing her true motive. "Well, Harry has his invisibility cloak so I just thought-"
Luna interrupted, "Everything must be a competition with you two, hasn't it?"
"You love it." Ginny retorted. They were outside the castle now, finding their usual spot by the greenhouses to stargaze. At least, that's what Luna was doing. Ginny tended to just pour out her thoughts and worries, as she did into Tom Riddle's diary years before. This seemed like a much safer option.
"No, I don't suppose I do, but I do find it quite interesting." Luna adopted the dreamy expression she had whenever she was thinking hard about something. Ginny admired how the other girl always seemed to understand things that no one else did.
Luna was the smartest person Ginny knew, but she never made anyone feel uncomfortable about it. She handpicked each word she used and never stumbled over them. Ginny figured this must be the only way others knew how incredible her mind was, because she was never haughty. Despite her perfect articulation, Ginny didn't know what she was saying half the time. How difficult it must be, to know so much but not be able to explain it to everyone else.
Ginny couldn't possibly imagine what Luna would predict from this. "What's interesting...?" She asked tentatively. Luna connected dots that normally seemed unrelated, but somehow she was usually right.
"I suspect that the competitiveness is just a facade to distract from the fact that you fancy each other. Even if you haven't admitted it to yourself yet." This, Ginny thought, was not incredible or all knowing, it was complete and total rubbi-
"I know you'll find it hard to believe, but just consider it." Ginny did consider it, then came to a very obvious flaw in the idea.
"Luna, I'm gay."
Luna just nodded.
They didn't speak for awhile after that and instead observed the night sky thoughtfully. The more Ginny considered it, the greater the feeling in the pit of her stomach intensified.
Could she actually fancy Harry Potter?
