The cold wind of leaf-bare was merciless as it bit into the kits' thin pelt. Stumbling into the warm nursery, they immediately collapsed into a shivering heap against Citrusfall.

Huddled around the entrance of the nursery, countless worried eyes peered through the nursery entrance.

"Kits! In leaf-bare! As if we haven't had enough mouths to feed!"

"Poor things, I wonder what happened..."

"Look how thin they are..."

"Will they survive the night?"

"A waste of prey..."

"Kits or not, they're rogues! We should drop them off far away from our border!"

Overlapping voices mingled as they all expressed their concerns.

Brookfur, the deputy, hissed as she pushed her way through the crowd of cats. "My stars! How are the kits supposed to rest with such a large commotion going on out here? Move along! Silverleaf needs to check on them."

With a few words, the cats had bit back their complaints, their eyes filled with respect for Brookfur, after all, Brookfur had gotten Sunningrocks back from Thunderclan.

A light grey pelt could be seen threading through the crowd. Silverleaf, the sole medicine cat of Riverclan was rather small in stature, but not in temper.

"If these kits die because I can't make it to the nursery, I'll get Koistar to claw your ears..." Silverleaf muttered.

Grimacing, the cats quickly retreated towards their own dens, not doubting the fierce she-cat's words. Silverleaf slipped through the entrance of the nursery and took a look at the frail figures of the kits. Their pelts created quite a contrast, with one being a light orange color, and the other a dark midnight black.

With the kit's eyes not open yet, it was clear that they had been abandoned at birth. "Who would do such a cruel thing?" Silverleaf thought.

She sighed, shaking her head before turning to address Citrusfall. "Have you thought of a name for them?" Silverleaf purred.

Citrusfall meowed happily, "Of course! The orange one is Sunkit, and the black one is Moonkit."

"Beautiful names for beautiful kits," Silverleaf replied, ducking her head and pressing her nose against their small bodies.

After feeling the abnormal temperature of their pelts, Silverleaf frowned, I'll bring some feverfew to help them, and some borage for you, Citrusfall."

"Thank you, Silverleaf," Citrusfall said, fixing her eyes upon the two kits snuggling into her pelt, her eyes glazing over slightly when she remembered her own litter of kits. A look of resentment was on her face before it was replaced with a loving expression.
