Chapter Four:
The whole room filled with awes and whoa's as we stepped into the house. Apparently Jay's uncle had a renovation over the summer.
The roof had been painted a silver-green mix. The garden had the pool and hot tub upgraded to a larger size. The couch had been built into the outside edge along the walls. It was a dark brown leather couch. The carpet was removed and replaced with laminate. The pool table had been moved to the game room and the bar had been made bigger. The outside garden surrounded the entire house and half had been turned into sand. There was a dug out in the sand which had been moulded into seats with a log fire in the middle which the guys had already lit, even though it was just gone midday.
We'd all moved our stuff into the rooms down the hallway and we were completely set up. All the clothes were put into the cupboards and the drawers.
I was currently sat at the end of my bed taking my things out and putting them away. I'd placed my hair stuff on the bedside table. Tyler hadn't come in yet. He'd been the first one to suggest a drink. He hasn't left the bar since. Which I'm kind of thankful for. I don't know if I want to speak to him, see he him or be near him. Heck I don't even want to be on the planet as him.
I looked at the single bed across from mine and sighed. I'm going to have to sleep in this room for two weeks with a gorgeous man, who I just kissed, sleeping not even two foot from me.
Isn't life grand.
About half two Tyler came stumbling into the room smelling of alcohol, he leant on the door and stared at me.
After a few seconds he pushed off the door and sat on my bed.
"Get off! That's my bed!" I complained while staring at him from the foot of my bed.
"There's stuff on my bed." He waved his hand absent-mindedly towards his bed. I looked over and noticed his bags were sat there still packed.
I walked over and pushed them onto the floor.
"There. Now move. I'm going to the living room. When I come back you best be in your own bed." I crossed my arms over my chest and scowled at him.
"You're leaving, what does it matter where I sit? Anyway I think I might come with you, I need another drink." He smiled at me as he stood up, swaying.
"Oh no you don't." I pushed him back on to my bed.
"I don't care where right now, but you need some sleep. Sleep off this alcohol." I sat next to him as he wriggled under my covers.
"If you say so ma'am!" He fake saluted me and rolled over.
I rolled my eyes and walked to the door. As I close the door I hear Tyler mumbling.
"Thank you Jamie." I smile slightly and close the door as quietly as possible.
I lean my head on the door and smile at the ceiling.
"What's got you so happy beautiful?"Dane walked out his door and leaned on the wall next to me.
"Just thinking about you." I smiled back at him as he reached for my hand. I held onto his as he pulled me into the living room. I cringed as I stared at his back, all I could think about was that kiss.
Dane sat down on the couch and pulled me onto his lap. He kissed me. I felt the guilt churning in my stomach. A week ago, a kiss from Dane would have sent my stomach into knots and had me weak at the knees. Now, I can feel the love in the kiss, but not the passion. I don't get the burning lust like I get with Tyler. But maybe that's a good thing. I mean I've seen so many chick flicks, I know that love is better than lust. Right?
"I think we should have some food! The bonfire is started and were gonna go back to nature for the first night. We're having a bonfire BBQ!" Jay shouted above the noise of the living room.
"Back to nature?"Jessica shouted back. "We're using lighter fluid to start the fire, and store bought burgers? Hardly very nature like." She laughs and Jay flips her the bird.
"Whatever." Jay holds his hands up to silence our laughter. "The fire is lit, the food is in the fridge." Jay scanned the crowd and turned to a caveman.
"Men, we get wood for fire. Women get food for eating. Go." Jay stumbled out the back door like an ape with the guys laughing behind him. I got off Danes lap and tried to walk back to my bedroom.
"Where you going?" Dane grabbed my wrist and pulled me back.
"To get Tyler, Jay said the guys have to get wood?" I tried to walk away again.
"You saw him, he was too drunk to even stand." He retorted.
"Yeah, but he still deserves to eat, so I'm going to wake him." He looked at me for a little while before releasing my arm and kissing my cheek.
"Okay, I'll save you a seat." He smiled sweetly.
I groaned inwardly as I continued to walk to my room. I knocked lightly on the door and pushed it open slightly,
"Tyler?" I said softly.
"Yeah?" He replied gruffly as I opened the door fully to see him awake and sitting on his own bed. His stuff was unpacked and put away. The room looked a lot larger without his crap scattered around the place.
"They're doing dinner, if you're hungry?" I asked leaning against the door frame, imitating him earlier.
"Er, yeah." He pushed himself off the bed and took his phone off charge. He walked over to the door, still swaying a little bit. I saw him stumble and I put my arms out to help him. He fell into me and looked in my eyes.
"You know, a lot of animals can sense fear. Because animals, when they're fearful, show the whites of their eyes a lot more than usual. I'm a predator. I can sense your fear of me. Of yourself. Of slipping into me and making a mistake. But, I can also feel the lust radiating off of you. I can sense you're frightened of doing something and regretting, but I can also feel you're frightened of not doing something and regretting it." His voice was barely above a whisper and it gave me chills up and down my body. I felt every inch of me electrify. Because he was right.
"I know what you want, and you'll get it. When you're willing to admit it yourself." With that he left. Leaving me standing there. Confused and slightly turned on. I put my head in my hands and sighed. Two weeks of hell. I have no idea how I'm going to manage this. I walk to the back door and see everyone gathered around the fire. It's getting dark now but the fire is illuminating everything it touches. I glance at everyone, eating and drinking. I look at Dane and he smiles at me, as if butter wouldn't melt. I smile back. I love him. I look across and notice Tyler, hitting on Lexi. I felt jealousy boil the surface. I looked back at Dane, I love him. My eyes flickered between Dane and Tyler. Polar opposites. Dane, Tyler, Dane, Tyler. I didn't know who to choose. If I sat with Tyler, I'm opening myself to pain and destruction.. and what could be the best time of my life. But if I sit with Dane, I have a future, with someone who I love and whom loves me. I can be caught in a Tyler's messed up life, or Dane's perfect one. I finally looked at him and take a step.
