“Hello there! You must be Mr. Jones daughter.” The man says to me while I am still shocked that Jake, the love of my life, is standing right in front of me.

“Yeah, ummm, yup, right this way.” I say stuttering and trying to lead them into the dining area.

“Well if it isn’t Mike Brown and his amazing wife Susan!” My dad says trying to kiss up to these people. Sometimes, if you ask me, he tries way, way too hard. “I’m so glad you all can make it. This is my daughter, Lacey.” My dad says while I just stand there adding an awkward wave.

“And his beautiful wife Christina!” My mom adds finally coming into the dining area; she just loves to make an appearance. I notice she just happened to decided to wear her new knee length, light blue, cut out dress. Let me not forget about her hair in long cascades down her back… If only I looked liked her right now.

“What are we doing just standing around?” My dad’s booming voice says, “Let’s eat!”

Everybody seated their self at the new marble table my dad got just last month. Jake's parents were seated across from each other, my parents on the side of them also across from each other, and at the end…. me and Jake seated right across from each other.

Can someone please tell me how, oh how, did I get stuck in this situation. This was definitely not how my amazing fantasy with Jake was suppose to turn out.

“Lacey, can you pass the peas over to Mrs. Brown?” My mom said snapping me out of my thoughts.

“Sure thing.” I said with a nervous smile.

As I was picking up the beans off the table, I couldn’t help but notice the fact that Jake was staring at me, and not in an “I need to get that girls number” but more in “do I know you” look on his face.

“Here ya go, Mrs. Brown.” I said finally completing the pass of the beans.

I picked up my spoon getting ready to shovel into my mom’s famous cream pie when someone goes, “How come you look so familiar?”

I look up and find out that voice of an angel came from Jake and his question was actually towards me.

“Oh funny story, you probably remember me cause I have been in almost every single one of your classes since second grade, but no problem.” I say with a slight hint of annoyance. I mean, come on, you would be mad to if the guy you have been crushing on for years and years didn’t even know who you are!

“Sorry.” Jake says and goes back to eating whatever is on that boy’s plate.

“ARE YOU CRAZY?!” Rebecca’s says after hearing about the tiny incident with me and Jake, “Out of all the things you could have said, you chose to make him feel bad?” Rebecca adds calming down a little.

First thing I did right when Jake and his family left, was plop down on my bed and call Rebecca hoping for some advice, but instead I’ve been getting ranted at for about the past 10 minutes. Oh Lord.

“I’m so sorry Rebecca with trying to ruin ‘your’ relationship with Jake.” I jokingly say trying to lighten up the mood.

“Fine, don’t say I didn’t try to help you out.” Rebecca says obviously still mad.

“Helping out is more like the opposite.” I muttered.

“What was that?”

“So what are you doing for homecoming?” I quickly add trying to change the subject.

“OMG! I forgot to tell you about this really adorable lavender colored dress-” Rebecca says as I zone out.

Yeah, one of my goals was to be homecoming queen, but honestly, no one is going to ask me in the first place, so why go around and worrying about it. So really, my plan for homecoming is to chill at home with some rented movies and a bowl of apple sauce.

“Lacey! Hello, you there?” Rebecca says breaking my relaxing thoughts.

“Yep, and I was listen to every single word.” I say with a bright smile even thou she can’t really see me.

“Oh really, since you were listening so well, do you mind answering my question.”

“Er… Can you repeat it, you see, I have bad memory.”

Rebecca quietly laughs to herself then says, “What dress are you planning on wearing for the dance?”

“Rebecca,” I say seriously, “You know I’m not going to the dance, especially alone.”

“Wow, im starting to believe you do have bad memory. Did you already forget that you owe me?" She says.

"Crap almost forgot about that." I say groaning, "Its not like anyone wants to go with me anyways."

"Psh posh!" Rebecca yells into the phone, "Gurl, you got guys lining up waiting to ask you!"

I get off my bed and peek out the window, "Nope, no lines yet." I say sounding totally depressed.
