THE moment Tuesday Goulding arrived at her flat from the hair salon, she went straight into the bathroom and soaked herself for about an hour in the bath. And when she finally got out and dried herself, she took a moment to view her pale face in the mirror without enthusiasm. She should have made an appointment for a facial, she acknowledged as she sat down to do her makeup while still in her pink dressing gown.

With her face fully done up she smiled with some satisfaction at her handiwork.

"Hopefully I will turn a few heads." She told her reflection in the mirror.

Tuesday went to her wardrobe. She selected a cream coloured long brocade dress which seemed most appropriate for Gala Dinner at Winfield House. It had straps rather than sleeves and a faux white mink wrap to drape over her shoulders. She added a necklace and matching earrings with a single bracelet on her wrist. She thought she looked divine as she sprayed on some perfume.

When she came out and was about to enter a black cab, man who was walking his dog whistled appreciatively. Tuesday smiled as the cab drove off to Winfield House because, now she knew for a certainty that she looked great.

Winfield House was a Regency styled villa and was also the residence of the Ambassador of the United States of America. It had played host to some powerful world leaders and a venue for diplomatic meetings.

After going through clearance Tuesday was admitted inside.

With a dry martini in hand she took in the interiors at Winfield House. The interior was classically derived from European, English, Georgian, French and Italian Neoclassical designs. She noticed that there was also a variety of fine Chinese art as well an extensive collection of American fine art.

Tuesday was just looking and admiring the art collections when she came face to face with a man in a tuxedo, and because he was so tall she had to look up at his handsome face. His thick fair hair was also well groomed.

"Do I know you?" He asked her.

"No," Tuesday replied and then walked away.

Soon after the hostess of the evening came to claim Tuesday and led to one of the guests present at the at Gala Dinner.

"This is Tuesday Goulding, she formerly worked for Mr. and Mrs. Beatty before they moved to Mumbai with their children. Tuesday, Sheila Gilroy." The hostess introduced the two ladies.

"Who is the man that  you were talking to a moment ago?" Sheila asked.

"Excuse me," Tuesday was confused while looking closely at Sheila, she thought that there was something fantastic about her and the bold emerald evening gown that she was wearing for the Gala Dinner. There was extreme décolleté, the gleaming emeralds around her neck as well the bandeau more emeralds on her head. Were they real? She could not tell.

"Captain Clark Bond." Sheila said holding her up her martini glass.

'I don't believe I know him, but...... the name sound familiar."

Sheila smiled. "He is good friends with your former employers."

Tuesday now remembered where she knew him. It was last summer when the Beatty's holidayed at Cap Ferret France, it was when they had been briefly introduced. Since then she had not seen or heard from him until now.

The guests were soon led into the dining room.

The guests all sat down to dinner table laden with golden ornaments and fine china and a profusion of purple orchids.

Tuesday found out that the Captain was seated next her.

"I believe we met sat Cap Ferret," Captain Bond said as he gazed his green eyes at her face.

"Yes, Captain I remember it now." Tuesday realized that she liked the way he smiled at her. There was also something enticing and forbidden in his green eyes.

"How do you like the Duck al Orange?" He asked.

"I like it very much," Tuesday said slicing into the duck meat that was glazed in orange. Then she gave a little laugh.

"What is so funny?"

"You! Trying hard to make polite dinner conversation."

His green became alight with humor making him more handsome.

And Tuesday surprisingly felt comfortable in his company.
