"Are you okay?" He asks.
"I spilt my coffee on my sleeve." I groan.
"Have some of mine." He chuckles as I toss out my empty cup and he hands me his own. "I meant are you okay? You clobbered him pretty good."
"I've got a pretty good teacher." I smile. "I'm fine." We begin walking through a park not far from home.
"So he used to be your friend?" He asks as we reach a bench. We sit and his arm is immediately around my shoulders.
"Yes. He moved away when we were 18. He and Howard were good friends. Howard and I were inseparable so Tom and I became friends too. All of us were close. There was a point where I did like him as more but it faded quite quickly when he started going other with a different girl every day of the week. He was obsessed with dating."
"Seems like he liked you too." Bucky chuckles.
"So he says, I'm sure he has a few girls on the line in a few different towns." I scoff.
"Is that why you punched him?"
"He called you a douchebag. You're not. He was pushy and rude and insulted you. That doesn't work for me."
"You know there was a point in time I was like him..." he says quietly. "Not to that extent but I took out a different girl almost every month or two. I was very...noncommittal."
I raise an eyebrow. "Really?"
"Throughout my teenage years, I liked to date in the summers. During the school year I was always very focused. But like I said, a new girl every month or two in the summer."
"None of them stuck I guess." I tease.
"There was one girl who I saw at Coney Island when I was with Steve. I spent all our money trying to win her a prize. We rode home in a freezer truck because we couldn't afford the bus or train." He laughs. "She wanted nothing to do with me. That should've been my hint. That was the last summer of high school. Only about a year ago did we see each other again for the first time and she suddenly was all over me."
"What was her name?" I ask.
"Dolores... I called her Dot." He tells me.
Alright good. Let's hear this. I think to myself. "So what happened?"
"She would come to the bank to see me a few times a week for nothing. For a few months she did this. Until She asked me to go out with her. We dated for about 7 months. So up until New Years roughly. It was excruciating. All we did was fight. Nothing I ever did for her was enough. All she ever did was take, there was no give. She wanted me to move in with her and I didn't want that because I knew it could only go downhill. Which was another fight."
"Wow." I hum as he continues.
"I would work every day and I knew she was seeing other guys while I was working. There was so much animosity between us. We could barely agree on what to have for dinner. She was this upper east side girl who always had everything her way when she wanted it. When I would disagree, she would turn into an entirely different person. I don't know how things lasted as long as they did. I don't know why I didn't end it sooner."
"So you ended it?" I ask.
"She did. I wouldn't have sex with her, after she slept with half the town. She said that she couldn't be with someone that couldn't get her there. I wouldn't do much of anything with her honestly. All of our time together was one of few things; awkward silences, arguing, me being belittled or more arguing. I was angry all the time, I don't know what kind of sick fetish she had for that. That's the only time she would try anything... when I was fuming. At which point I would just leave. One night I came back and I could hear her fucking another guy in her place. I could hear them going at it and I just went home. Avoided her for almost a week. She showed up at my work and ended it there. That was it."
