wake up, go to school, go to the cafe and work, go home, work on some assignments and sleep- the cycle starts. that's such a normal day, isn't it?
but why is it so fun?
that's because i was actually doing what i like. well, minus the academics.
i loved coffees ever since i was a child, despite my parent's lectures, nothing was going to stop me. so i learned, and had the job. of course, my parents were hesitant at first, so they said that as long as i passed my subjects, i'm good. so here i am;
i can work behind the counter, or as a barista, either really was fun for me.
"good afternoon!" i shout as soon as i step inside the kitchen. everyone greets back with a smile beaming on their faces. "hey seung, where am i placed today?" you nudged your friend who was also your classmate, waiting for you.
"you'll be at the cashier," he said and smiles at you. "with me," you playfully gasp and hunched your shoulders, pouting.
"it'll be a pain in the ass," you mumble and glared at him.
kim seung, well, he wasn't just an ordinary barista you are friends and classmates with. he was the kim seung. everybody knew him, and everybody liked him. we all know that kind of someone, right? well he is that someone.
the moment seung stepped out of the kitchen in his apron, i sighed and slapped my cheeks slightly.
"you can do this," i mumbled once again and took a step outside.. to have a bunch of girls shoving each other to be on seung's line. i put up an awkward, small smile and punched seung lightly on his side which caused him to chuckle, and made the girls swoon for him more.
"what would you like to order?" seung finally starts asking and made me look in front of me, and it was as if a crow passed by. no one was literally on my line which made me work as a barista to help seung.
"seung, help me get that first," i pointed at the highest shelf, where the newest beans were. seung swiftly turned his heel to face me and quickly reached for it while his other hand was on my arm for support.
i was flustered for a moment but i shake my head to brush it off and when i looked back, all the girls were now glaring at me.
nothing but a chuckle escaped my lips, going back to your work.
"uhm, excuse me." a low voice which enticed me, called.
i glanced at my counter to finally find someone waiting.
"oh, sorry." i smiled at the, oh so handsome man in front of me, fluttering my eyes more than usual. "w-what would you like to order?" i stuttered which made me furrow my eyebrows. i was unconsciously nervous for the first time in front of a customer, i was more than confused. even seung bat an eye on me when he heard me,
"just one large iced latte." he smiles at me.
oh my god is he even real?
"sure, its just twelve hundred won." i breathe out, tapping the order away on the monitor. he gives me his card and i quickly did my shit and have it back to him with trembling hands.
"are you okay?" he suddenly asks and everyone stops what they were doing. seung looks at me worriedly, and everyone in the back kitchen stops their noise and looks out of the small window and the door to look at me.
i wasn't the baby of this cafe for nothing.
"uh.. yes?" i answered but it sounded more like a question. you awkwardly clear your throat and got the cup, ready to make his order. "your name please." i was still shaking, and i didn't know why.
"lee dohyun," he answers which made me chuckle. no one ever gave their last name for a cup of coffee. "is something wrong?" he asks once again which made you stop.
"no, nothing is wrong. sorry," i felt awkward again. why the fuck am i acting like this?
"how about yours?" his stoned face asked another which made me stop what i was doing. i glanced at him to look if he was talking to me, and no other eyes screamed an answer more than his.
"w-what?" i stutter out again, feeling slightly uncomfortable but my stomach said otherwise. it was bursting butterflies in there. i continued making his order to avoid awkwardness.
"i'm asking for your name," he blurts out and once again, everyone behind the counter stops. seung glares at the man who was oblivious at the glare, and everyone at the back were audibly chuckling.
i turned at seung to ask for help but he too was oblivious to my looks. he was too busy checking the man out if he meant bad.
"o-oh, i'm hyerin," i smile at him and handed him his order that i actually don't know what i put in because i was too occupied.
"nice to meet you," he smiles back and hands me back the drink. "i wanted a latte, this is an americano," he chuckles which made me jump.
"holy shit, i'm so sorry." i turn my back at him, scrunching my face at my clumsiness.
i put my magic and give it back to him.
"see you again, ms. hyerin," he smiles and lightly pats my hands that were still trembling, leaving me with wide eyes and breathless.
"i think you're in love," a customer who was about to leave chuckles at me. i furrow my eyebrows at him and gave him a small smile in order to not come off as rude until he left.
i turn to look at seung and he was still squinting his eyes at me until the bunch of girls grunt.
"mind to take my order now?" the girl in front of him knocks on the counter to get seung's attention again. he mutters a sorry and i help him with the orders again despite the burning looks i got from the girls.
i think life just got better.
