Late nights

DINAH SIGHED AS SHE GRABBED HER KEYS to lock up the bar. It was probably around four in the morning, and she was tired beyond belief. Cami had gone home earlier, and her other employees had barely been around that day.

There was definitely an odd vibe surrounding the quarter, one that made her uneasy.

"Excuse me, I was wondering if Sophie Devereux is here?" A man spoke up, making the woman jump slightly, her hand traveling to her chest to steady her heartbeat.

"She's been in and out all night, i'm not sure where you'd be able to find her." Dinah smiled lightly, finally looking up to lock eyes with the man.

His eyes looked like they were hiding something, which added something to his dark allure. The woman smiled lightly, grasping her keys tighter as they made eye contact as he smiled right at her. They remained silent for a few moments, both of them wondering who'd speak first.

"Well, thank you for letting me know." The brunette man walked up to the counter, extending his hand. "I'm Elijah Mikselson, and you are?"

"Dinah Levy." She coyly accepted the mans hand, shaking it as they kept eye contact. "Nice to meet you, Elijah."

"The pleasure is all mine." The Mikaelson man grinned. "I assume you are the owner of this lovely establishment?"

"You assume correct." Dinah nodded her head, waving her keys around. "The establishment that's about to close."

The Levy girl grabbed her purse and walked around the counter, reaching to feel if her pepper spray was hanging off the side of her purse.

Just in case.

"I did not mean to intrude while you were closing." Elijah spoke, still smiling as they walked with each other toward the exit. "It is just urgent I find Sophie."

"Could I ask what the matter is that you need to see her about?" Dinah quirked up her brow, the man before her opening the front door, allowing her to exit the room.

The Levy woman had to admit she was curious, it couldn't be a boyfriend or anything, the Devereux woman hadn't been serious with anybody in years. The closest she had gotten was sleeping around with Marcel, which she thought her boss didn't know. Problem with that is, being an owner of a bar gets you the information on almost anything in the quarter.

"It's just a bit of family business." Elijah answered simply. "I heard that she works here around the quarter, I figured this would be my first stop."

"Well, it's been pretty weird with her and her sister lately, I was starting to think they were doing something i'd have to fire them for." Dinah let out a content sigh. "Now that I know it's just a family matter, i'm glad. Their food is to die for."

The pair were standing outside of the door now as the Levy woman locked the bar up. She usually closed around this time every night, however, she usually had Cami with her to walk with her to their apartment. The blonde had gone to some art show earlier on in the night, and then went home to catch up on some sleep afterwards.

"Would you like me to walk you to your car?" Elijah asked, almost as if he had read the woman's mind.

"I walk home, gives me a chance to enjoy the quarter for all it is." Dinah took in a relieved breath. "The whole place is beautiful."

"It is." The Mikaelson man nodded, extending his arm for the woman to hang onto. "If you'd let me, i'd love to walk you home."

The Levy woman thought about it for a moment, biting in the inside of her cheek as she contemplated what to do. Trust a man she just met to know her address, or possibly get mugged, or even worse. She figured him walking her home was the best option, however, she'd have her pepper spray ready for any moment.

"Thank you." Dinah smiled lightly, hooking her arm with his as the pair began to walk. "So, is your family from here?"

"My family is from everywhere, but yes, New Orleans is one of those places." Elijah nodded lightly. "One of our favorites, actually. Especially my brother."

"How big is this family?" The Levy woman chuckled, "The way you refer to them, it kinda seems like it's an army of siblings."

"Unfortunately, our family hasn't had the best luck." The brunette man wore an unreadable expression as he spoke. "A lot of them have passed away, currently it's just my brother, my sister, and I and we are all drifting apart."

"I'm sorry to hear that." Dinah knitted her brows together, wondering how small talk ended up on such a deep topic, she figured it's because both of them immediately felt comfort in each other, which was really nice. "I wish I had more family growing up, my parents never really intended on having children, too focused on their careers, and then right before my mom turned forty, here comes little old me."

The pair chuckled as the moonlight started to fade before them slowly, the morning peaking through.

"My mother was all about having children, I suppose our family lives were quite different." Elijah spoke, admitting things but still keeping his cards close to his chest.

Dinah liked that about him.

"Yeah, well, i'd probably prefer to have a lot of siblings." The Levy woman let out a sigh. "I've always felt like I needed to be perfect, for my parents, and they recently passed away, so now it's like an even worse weight on my shoulders."

"I think everyone can relate to wanting to make their parents proud, even if I gave up on it a very long time ago." Elijah smiled lightly. "The perfection aspect however, I agree with entirely."

"I can't leave the house without my hair perfect, and my outfit has to be pristine, even if I try to just relax." Dinah shook her head. "My best friend always calls me impossible because I almost never sleep, i'm always on the go."

"Well, I find that admirable." The Mikaelson man had maintained the same smile his whole journey toward the womans house, but upon noticing her stop in front of a building, it faded quite a bit.

"This is me." The Levy woman unhooked her arm from his, extending out her hand so that they could say goodbye. "It was nice meeting you Elijah, and thank you for walking me home."

Instead of shaking it, the Mikaelson man leaned down, taking a hold of her hand before placing a soft kiss on it, looking upwards towards her.

"It was my pleasure." He uttered out, smiling slightly.

Who was Elijah Mikaelson? The woman wondered, and where did he come from?
