Dear Julian,

I don't really know where to start, if I'm being honest. The first thing I should tell you is to please don't blame yourself. I mean it. I don't blame you at all. I'd rather die here knowing you and the girls are safe, then be safe myself and know that you're not. There's nothing else you could've done. It was my choice completely. Okay?

If it makes you feel any better, this place really is beautiful. Just outside my window, I can see the blossoms of this weird tree. I've never seen anything like it before, especially not out here in the desert like this. The man who helped me here - Wren - tells me it's called a cannonball tree. He says that they're all over the property. It smells nice, and the blossoms - before they turn into fruit - are pink.

You might get all flustered if I say this, but they remind me of you.
