- - - Danny's POV - - -
"Now son, hold this," My dad handed me a white painted machine with lime green highlights and the Fenton logo. I inspected it with a curious suspicion, having never lain eyes upon it before. Which new meathod of ripping a ghost apart 'molecule by molecule' did he come up with now?
"No, like this," He fixated the position of my hands over the device while also managing to tie my arms into a corkscrew, "Good, now stand perfectly still." He spoke with his renowned smile and hustled over to a larger, more complex machine linked to the wall.
"Uh, Dad?" I asked with a concerned edge in my tone, "What exactly is this supposed to... do?"
"Well my boy! If mine and your mother's research are correct, it should blast every ghost targeted with that thingamajig," In a quick movement he pointed toward a device that resembled a pistol. A lasor streamed out of its nuzzle and into the portal, "into an alternate universe. I call it the Fenton Phantom Flicker."
"An alternate universe?!" I exclaimed, my voice cracking a little with a distraught tone. My eyes flicked open wide. I felt my fingers grow feeble when they trembled, causing a loosened grip over the device I held. It was dislodged from the exact angle my dad wanted it in.
"Yep! An alternate universe! Since the ghost zone is linked to our world, and they can escape from it when we catch them, what better way to ensure that they'll be gone than to send them to somewhere they can't come back from?" Gusto rang in his voice. He pressed a button and a shot was fired from the gun, lined up by the angle of the laser.
Tension rose in the air. I watched anxiously, surprised that I was too late. I failed to grasp the concept of my dad not fumbling this up somehow. Maybe it would miss any ghost completely? My mind was running at insane speeds with pressure rising. I needed to do something!
My dad blankly stared at the portal for a while, then blinked, "Huh. Ya know, maybe I should have waited for an actual ghost to show up." His brows lowered and stared at what appeared to be an ectoplasmic radar system with deep confusion,"But that doesn't explain why this radar is going nuts. It even reads that there's a ghost right in this room!"
I wasn't nervous because my dad just referenced me unknowlingly, I was nervous because I was being detected when I wasn't even in my ghost form running on ectoplasm. There was a distinctive stiffness in the air. Something was off.
I peered intently at the swirling green hues of the open ghost zone.
"Ya know, son, maybe if I -"
Instantaneously, within the moment of an eye's blink, the ghost zone shifted to an eerie grey and sent out a pulse through the lab - a grey ring of the same substance that rolled over and through the area. I looked at my hand in the moment it had passed over. I saw my hand of my ghost form, and it appeared to 'glitch out' like a tv with a poor connection. A blinding flash of light took over the room, then my vision cleared to find the normal setting of the lab. A light blue stream of mist escaped my mouth, and I looked up to see a shadow exit the ghost zone and phase through the roof.
"Screaming spooks! What was that?" Jack exclaimed, staring directly at me.
"Uh..." I felt like his eyes were seeing straight through me. Did he just see my ghost form? "I think..."
"My golly, did it work?" He intently watched the ghost zone.

So, what do you think of this so far? Do you like it? Have any suggestions? This is my first story here, so I'm new at this. Short chapters are the most common complaint I've read while browsing around on here. That and slow updates. I'm guessing this chapter would also be considered as short, and I'll try for a longer one next time. I'd like to thank everyone who reads this, any support helps encourage me to write more.
The next update might take a bit, I have a load of homework this week.
