CHAPTER 2

I was momentarily quiet thinking about it. My heart flutters when I opened the door few minutes ago, I was surprised to find James in front of my eyes. I tempted to take him right there but the past won’t let me. My brain says no but my heart says yes.

Why no? He laughed at you and thinks you’re stupid.

How about yes? He flew to New York to find you and seek your forgiveness..

When I was about to decided my decision, he cut me off.

“I would love to take you to dinner tomorrow night and talk to you, my dear Mia,” he murmured softy as he cupped my face.

I sighed when the warmth of his skin touched mine; my head somehow inevitably leaned on his touch and closed my eyes as I treasured it. I didn’t get to feel his skin before. When I opened my eyes, I’m hoping to see his face in annoyance or furious instead I saw an intoxicating smile formed on his lips. He knows that I’d been craving his touch all this time. My mind race thousand thoughts when James slowly leaned closer. Oh his lips, things I wanted to do with it.

“MIA! WHERE DID YOU PUT MY PANTS-” a loud voice breaks our moment and I jerked away. Lila stomping crazily from her room and paused when she saw us standing with James’ hands still stayed on my jaw.

“Oh shit! Sorry!” she reluctantly headed back to her room and slammed her door. My eyes shifted to a man standing so close to me and stunned when James didn’t take his eyes off me. I held James hand and pulled it away.

“Fine, tomorrow night,” I said. “I will have dinner with you,”

James released a thank-God-she-said-yes exhale and said, “I’ll pick you up tomorrow at seven,” he circled my hand with his thumb. We stood there silent and a bit awkward, and lowered my gaze not wanting to look at his face.

James cleared his throat, breaking the silence. “I think I should go,” he stepped back and kissed the back of my hands. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Once he leaves the place, Lila quickly tackled me with curious plastered on her face. “Who the fuck is that? I thought you’re going out with Trey? And I admit that damn guy is so gorgeous!” she asked when we settled on the couch. She was wearing white tank top and cute lace boy shorts which is mine. She doesn’t really care about sharing outfits but I’m not, especially when it’s new.

“That was James,” I caressed where he just place his hand with my finger and continued, “and I don’t go out with Trey, okay.”

“Why not? Trey is fun, funny and quiet handsome!” she arched her eyebrows.

“It’s just that, I think Trey is only looking for hook-up,” well that was a lie and I just assumed about it.

Lila rolled her eyes, “and what business between that guy James with you? He kinda into you,”

“He was my professor back in college, he wanted to take me out and talk,” I blurted out.

“WHAT? He WAS your professor?!” she squealed. “I can’t believe he’s a professor! If I’m his student my pants would be soaked right now!”

Yeah, I silently agreed with Lila.  That was me two years ago. I can’t resist looking at him many times when he passed me. I did my googled ‘how to seduce my professor’ but I didn’t do it. He did catch me staring at him during his class then I shyly looked away.

I nodded at Lila and gently shifted my aching body to the side and grabbed my phone on the coffee table. There were two messages and two missed call from Cara and my mother. I replied Cara’s apology text that I forgave her then I called my mum wondering what is her latest problem. She picked up the phone after the second ring.

“Mia, honey?” her breathy voice answered.

“Hi mom, what’s up?” I asked.

“You free this afternoon? Wanna grab some lunch with me?” I imagined her smiling showing off her perfect white teeth at me.

“Sure, I’ll text you the place,” then she hanged up soon as I finished what I said. I groaned and shifted back facing Lila who I didn’t realized she was still sitting next to me. She immediately grinning like a Cheshire cat. “What?” I asked.

“You told me that you have dinner tomorrow night, right?”

“Yeah, why?” I crossed my arms on my chest.

She stood up and handed me her hands. “Well my darling, you need a dress! Let’s go shopping!”

***

After the drastic shopping with Lila, we finally went home with a black knee-length dress which a bit revealing on the back. I changed into blue-white stripe t shirt and matched it with my pale denim shorts and hazel ankle boot before I headed out to meet my mom. I tied up my hair and applied a lip gloss to make it more presentable.

I saw a black SUV car when I arrived at the place I agreed to meet her. The restaurant was filled with customers wearing office suit and pencil skirts. My eyes roamed around the room and stopped as I saw a short honey gold bob hair woman waving her hands at me.

“Hi mum,” I greeted her with a kissed on her both cheeks before I took my seat across her.

She placed her palm on the back of my hands. “Oh my Mia, it is good to see you,” her blue grey eyes sparkling onto mine. Sarah King Goshea always has been the golden lady in her time, with her soft honey gold hair and her skin white as a milk. She used to be a model but when she met my father, she stopped modelling and decided to focus on her family. My dad, William passed away when I was 16, I had to take care of my mom’s breakdown and eventually she married again to a great guy, Ricky and she able to smile again like her old self. “You remind me of your dad every time I see those beautiful green eyes,”

“Yeah, I miss him too,” I shifted my gaze to the waitresses approaching to our table.
