"Chicken salad with orange juice, please," my mother ordered and gave the menu back to the waiteress. I ordered mash potato and sparkling water. The waiteress quickly leave us after she took the menu.

"So, why did you called to me, mom?" I asked. She put down her ridiculously expensive Chanel bag on the table and took out her phone. I wonder why she called me today. She usually talk to me on the phone and she's not always invite me to lunch.

"There's something I wanted to tell you, Mia. Remember your Mr. Earnest?" She arched her eyebrows. I gulped and nodded. Please don't tell me she told him..

"He called me yesterday regarding about you, my dear. So I gave him your apartment address," she smiled sweetly.

What? Is that why he suddenly appeared in front of my apartment out of nowhere. This is too much! He called my mother? Oh my, what if she know about what happened few years ago? My face literally like a rock and my throat suddenly felt dried. I downed the glass of clear water quickly. Without thinking the consequences, I coughed.

"Mia! What's wrong with you?" My mother passed me her glass and busily wiped the table with the napkin. I gulped the water and took a deep breath. What a mess.

"Sorry mom," I muttered as I wiped my mouth. Shortly, the same blonde waiteress approached our table with our food. We ate in silence a while but my mother only stabbed her salad with a fork, worried flashed across her face. "Is there something wrong with you and Mr. Earnest?"

"Nope, he did visit me yesterday and it was just a brief chat," I smiled weakly.

"Really?" She dragged her wide eyes from her phone to me. "So what happened?"

"Nothing, he just wanted to see me and ask how I'm doing after all this year," I gave her a flat smile. As she was about to say something, the same waitress swinged by served the food and drinks. I quickly took a bite of my food and moaned satisfyingly as I chewed the creamy gravy mash potato. We ate in silence while my wanders about Mr. Earnest or James.

My mother finished her food first while I was still savoring my food slowly. She relaxed back with her orange juice on her hand. "Isn't that weird?"

"What weird?"

"Professors or teachers don't usually see their students in person and ask them how they're doing," she looked at me with her eyebrows arched as she sipped the straw of her drinks.
I know right, mom! Isn't that weird when your professor hugged their ex-student on their first met after 2 years!

I shrugged and pretend to enjoying my food.

Later that night, I strolled around the city's streets taking in the vibrant city's light around me. The cold air brushed my bare leg but I didn't care. The nightlife never ends as people called it 'the city never sleeps'. Some diners turn into clubs in the wee of the morning. High unique buildings rooming over me as I crossed the street and head back to my apartment. Back then, Lila helped me and introduced me to this amazing New York City and taught me a bit by bit how to be a like them. Years passed by, I still fell in love with the city and nothing could change that.

When i turned around the corner, I saw familiar figure standing in front of my apartment building. Not alone, there was a beautiful girl laughing cheerfully with him. Quick pang of jealousy hit my heart when I saw James looking happy with her. I didn't realized that I'd been standing there until James caught my eyes. As his eyes fixed on mine and my heart beating wildly. He grabbed the girl's hand and walked towards me.

"J-James," I stuttered.

"Mia," the way he said my name sweetly making my skin tingled. He pulled my hand from my side and kissed the knuckles gently then turned to the girl beside him. "Cailin, this is Mia. Mia, this is my little sister, Cailin,"

I silently mentally slapped myself. It's his sister, Mia! What wrong with you?

Cailin shook my cold hand and smiling cheekily at me. Her height was almost the same as me. Her eyes are lighter than James'. She swept her curly dyed blonde hair to the side as she turned to James, "So this is the girl you always mention,"

Always? James glowered at her and Cailin giggled at him. "I'm so happy to get to officially meet you after all this time, my ears were about to teared off when James non-stop talking about you, Mia," she rolled her eyes.

"Alright that is enough, Lyn," he groaned and softly he pulled her away from me. I chuckled at him being ludicrously adorable because I never seen him like this. Of course, I always seen him being so serious when he lectured us.

Cailin pulled her ringing phone out from her bag, "I better get going lads, I have dinner reservations with Elliot," she winked. "I'll see you guys around," she pecked on James' cheek and hugged me. I was surprised but yet Cailin seems very friendly and cheeky so I returned her hugs. James hailed a cab for her then she was out of our sight. That leaves me alone with James. Again.

I wrapped my arms as the cold night wind softly kissed my bare skin. "I better head inside," I walked quickly to the lobby of my apartment because my body was shivering in cold and I really didn't want to be alone with James again.

"Wait, Mia!" He called as he jogged up to me. "I'll walk you up,"

"There's no need to-"

James pushed the button to call the elevator car before I finished. The ride to 7th floor seemed like forever to arrive. The car was pretty small, so James drew me closer to him as the old couple entered. I blushed scarlet when they smiled at us.

We politely said goodnight to the couple once the car arrived to 7th floor and headed to my apartment. Unexpectedly, his warm hand brushed on my naked arm as we stopped just outside my door. Heat infused my entire body and all I wanted to do was to throw my arms around him and pulled his body into mine. He pulled my body to him and I gasped. "You tempted me, Mia..." he whispered behind me. I could feel his burning gaze on the back of head. I turned and looked at his gorgeous blue eyes. I knew that look. That dangerous look pulled me into misery if I didn't choose the choice wisely but something troubling him; I saw it in his eyes. My mind went crazy thinking he was going to devour my mouth when pulled my body closer to him instead he dropped his forehead onto mine.

"Goodnight, Mia," then he's gone, leaving me staring at the empty hallway.
